No picture when playing AGS games (SOLVED)

Hello folks I'm having some problems with AGS
I have just had a massive system data loss which made me have to Format my hard disc meaning i had to re-download AGS 2.72
Trouble is i now cannot play any AGS games but i could before
One other thing when rebooting my computer I had to go from XP Pro to XP Home

Which version of AGS were the games made with?

Problems playing other people's games? Which ones?
What's the problem? Any error messages?

I was a bit lacking in the details there

Ok i have downloaded the trials of odyseus kentÃ,  by yahtzee
but whenever i play it it wont show up
MeaningÃ,  the game will actually run (sounds crazy) but no graphics show up
the only reason i know that it is playing is because when i move the window it is playing in, parts of the intro appear you can see odyseus and even the priest a few clicks later

I have no idea what is going on

Any ideas

PS i have not had enough time after my full reboot to try making a room to test but i will try and do that now

PPS i have just tried it and when i test it its exactly the same

I think it maybe a graphics card problem    Galaxy Geforce FX5500 NVidia

I just tried the magic hat and the music plays and yet there is no graphics

Have you installed the latest graphics card drivers? Latest DirectX?

i haven't done direct x but i'll give it a go

Could the games be played in windowed mode?

Afraid not but installing direct x v 9.0 solved the whole thing

When windowed you could move the window and the graphics that were supposed to be displayed  Appeared but were still
