Chinese boy character need comment.....

I am new to low resolution character drawing, still learning from the tutorial. I really need comments from you guys.

I want to draw a Chinese boy character:

Have not done the shading yet. But I think the outline is ok.
However, my friend thought the side view looks like a girl.....

Therefore, I changed the hair style:

Would this hair style better? Or still looks girlish?

Please also give comments to other problem of my drawing. Thanks a lot!

I think his hair knot should be higher...like any of these guys so it doesnt look so girly.

I'd try the last one

Aye, I think the second side image looks less girly but not quite sure that it looks like a boy. So, give it another shot....

Those 3 are japanese but they've been living in China for quite some time now. So maybe now they are citizens.

You could do the hair braided rather than a ponytail to avoid girlyness appearence..

Infact, the lower the resolution of the character is, the harder it will be to tell if it's a male or female.

I did a fast edit to give you some ideas on how to make him more masculine. When dealing on such a small scale the body will be what helps determine the sex of the character not the head.

P.S. I think the butt was just too big for a guy.

Adjusted the ponytail a bit but not much improvement, so I think I will use the other one.

And yes, I should adjust the butt slightly.....
