Five years really is a long time.Ã,  Lots of stuff has happened to me as well, and what I remember most (in no particular order) is:

- Went to university, switched majors twice, and subsequently failed out my last semester, 4 1/2 years later.
- Made some crappy AGS games.
- Made a whole bunch of AGS Operas and a couple of AGS Shows.
- Fell foolishly in love with, and had my heart completely broken by a girl.
- Spent 2 years trying to get over said girl.
- Met some of my best friends in real life at university.
- Met some of my best friends online, and then met them in real life.
- Worked at a crappy retail store for 8 months, then got a better job.
- Travelled to Spain, Greece, the UK, Paris, Canada, New York, and several Caribbean islands.
- Realized I hated one of my friends after being roommates for 2 years.
- Turned 21, and became a borderline alcoholic.
- Lost my virginity.
- Went through 2 major hurricanes.
- Started a relatively successful series of AGS games.

I am also a vastly different person than I was in 2001.Ã,  But then, since most of us have spent the last 5 years in our late teens/early 20's, it's not a surprise that we've changed a lot.

I've been here 3 years. In that time I've...
-Fallen completely in love with an awesome girl whom I'd love to spend forever with
-Started drinking
-Learned about torrents, thanks to Al_Ninio. Which is why I now have 67 gig of music in iTunes.
-Taken up bass and bought two. A Thunderbird and a roadgear.
-Started a few journalistic endeavors and learned how hard it is ( www.myspace.com/theredscarf )
-Spent too much time on the internet
-Voice acted for a game. Lots of fun, not quite as fun as stage or film acting, but fun nonetheless :)
-Talked a lot of crap on #ags
-Grown up a lot.
EDIT:
-Been in 2 plays. Partly wrote one of them.
-Started too many games I haven't finished. They are coming though.
-Lost my virginity
-Saw a bunch of bands live. DANDY WARHOLS!
-Just finished year 11
-Started a band, which I sing for as well as playing aforementioned bass.  We've got a couple of originals done. We just need a friggen drummer.
-Greatly improved singing since that horrible crap I posted here a year back.
-Ventured outside a lot more and actually like the sun. I even enjoy the beach
-Made a short film

voh

I've been here 2,5 years now. In that time, I've:

- started university, studying English Language and Culture
- dated a girl almost that entire period, though 7 months ago that ended, now we're amazingly good friends
- written and published a book
- made a set of 50 paintings, of which I've sold half
- moved 3 times, ending up in an appartment of my own
- dated another girl for 3 months, which is also over, but that's a good thing
- finished recording an album
- purchased an electric guitar, and started playing on it
- borrowed a bass guitar for a lengthy period, and I'm now proficient enough that I'm considering buying one of my own so I can give this one back
- spent new year's eve in Berlin, and shouted 3.2.1.WHOOOO! amongst millions of Germans
- been attacked a couple of times by morroccans
- saved my neighbour from being beaten up, and I have been called as a witness to testify against the guy who tried to beat him up
- found out my neighbour hates jews, of which I am one.
- got a job at the state-subsidized television stations here in the Netherlands
- worked my ass off at pixel art, and getting better slowly
- did two 24-hour comics together with a mate (one last year, one this summer)
- sang and played guitar in a bar, in front of a 50-60 people audience that didn't consist entirely of friends, which was scary as sin
- had one of my songs put on a playlist in a small club in England :)

And many more things, but most of them aren't AGS-related. Only one project currently going, and haven't worked on it much lately.. Oh well :)
Still here.

In the past five years I've:
- Made some crappy AGS games
- Annoyed a lot of people
- Written crappy poems
- Written crappy stories
- Written crappy screenplays
- Annoyed some more people.
- Tricked myself into thinking I loved someone at least three times, then fallen into a slump because obviously I didn't love them and they didn't love me.
- Traveled to Germany, where I drank more than a sip of wine for my first time.
- Retained my virginity

- Begun writing a novel and completing my first short film to have a a professionally made score and a DVD release.
- Totally lost my desire to ever create an AGS game, but still remain on the forums because it's the loveliest place on the interweb.
- And apparently, I've grown somewhat of a beard, too.

I won't be getting too personal, but here are some of my accomplishments in the 4 years I have been an AGSer:
- Got fascinated with music. Rock in particular. And musicals.
- Decided to write some music, and with the help of Petteri, I think, I got good at it, I also hopefully improved my singing, composing, playing and arranging skills during that period
- Created several games of dubious quality, which some people liked. Also helped musically for other people's released and unreleased games.
- Created an ezine, and released hm, 14 issues of it.
- Became fascinated with serious literature, Fitzgerald, Graham Greene, and Dumas being among my favourites.
- Became a fan of films noir and their derivatives.
- Learnt and realised the difference between friend and acquaintance.
- Evolved from the 'new guy' in class to the class representative, although I never really craved for the respect I got.
- Hopefully, became more mature on the internet.
- Edited, participated in reviving and wrote for the school newspaper... which turned out to be pretty bad.
Well that's what I can think of at the moment, it's quite interesting to read what you people have been up to. :)

In 3 years, what have I accomplished?

- Finally came back to the country of my ancestry
- Lost contact with almost everyone in my old circle of friends
- Found out how immensely difficult and weird it is to reconcile "differences" between myself and my countrymen
- Gave up trying to
- Made a first 5 room game as a test
- Started off a much bigger game with the same characters, which got me introduced to the AGS community
- Almost completed the game, then gave up on it for some reason
- Discovered that my poetry had become too "serious" to be enjoyable
- Discovered that my sketchwork had become boring
- Planned a huge RPG-like game that involved several 'races' and multi-characters
- Made a crappy MAGS game with the same characters from my original game
- Had to repeat 2 years of A' Levels due to difference in system (they do it in 2 years here!)
- Went from being an A student to being a C student
- Went through 2-3 very bland relationships (the lack of a definite figure shows just how bland)
- Made a complete, finished game which takes 5 minutes to play through
- Applied everywhere like crazy, only to find out that neither me, nor the colleges I wanted to go to had enough money (or wished to part with any on my behalf) for me to go to any college I wanted
- Was finally able to join one of the better engineering colleges here
- Lost contact with almost everyone in my old circle of friends
- Died twice in my non-nightmare dream in the same night (as opposed to waking up just before dying)
- Accumulated a lot of stories for my collection of "True Horror Stories About Education"
- Gave up trying to find a job for now after being told to my face that "I was worth nothing", and "I knew nothing"

I don't think I've accomplished much that can be seen in solid concrete "Ready-for-the-World" examples

I haven't been quite a year here yet, but all kinds of things have happened. In real life:
Girls, parties, drugs, deaths, births, work, etc.

I am beginning to doubt I will ever produce anything with AGS, but the forums have:
-inspired me to write, compose, paint
-made me laugh
-bored me out of my mind (like the internet usually does).

Helm awoke my interest in philosophy, and I have changed to a more analog person
because of that (thank you). Here is a summary of my current philosophical thoughts:
----------------------------------------------------
Of the meaning of life and philosophy

I think the meaning of life is to live.
This happens among other things when I am
immersed in the moment, stop thinking and
analyzing.
Therefore, I believe philosophy should strive
to undo itself, the only time it should be
used is when thoughts are interfering with life,
holding you back.

My experiences with philosophy lead me to
appreciate the path more than the goal;
I have found it more rewarding to discover pieces
and see if they fit rather than read books
(did some wikipedia checkups now and then
to understand the general ideas).
I came to the conclusion that I prefer
the middle-ground best (example: agnosticism)
since it gives me the most flexibility when
my life-situation changes, giving me more time
outside my head instead of analyzing and
re-evaluating everything.

Carpe diem, be vigilant.

Hell is like Tetris, make sure that you fit.

Off-topic-ish, so sue me.

Babar, how could you have died in your dream? You must have had some presence in your dream, to see or know you were dead! So does this mean it was your body that died (twice) in the dream? Are you sure you didn't dream you were playing unreal tournament and you respawned, hence dying twice?  ;)

Babar

I don't play Unreal tournament much, but I might just have got the Character-eye view of respawning:

1- I jumped infront of a truck, got smashed to smithereens.
2- There was a huge white flash that then got concentrated into a tiny point, and then black, then I was in front of the truck again.
3-  I jumped on it, went to the back, and got stabbed by someone there.
4- Repeat of 2
5- Jumped on the truck, killed the stabber, and....then something.

That sounds like the game idea proposed by some geezer from the folks who made morrowind/oblivion. Maybe you read that thread where it was mentioned, and there are elements of other things that went through your mind that day. I'm purely speculating, of course.

Interesting responses.

It helps put some things in perspective, if not necessarily solve anything.

@ m0d: I'll always belong to this community, even way after I've stopped coming here. Heh - I see I'm still in the top whateveritis of posters.

Man...

See you next time, folks.
