As a last resort, I thought perhaps you clever people on the AGS forums, always so clever and handsome... might be able to help.

I have a erm... this PC:

Shuttle XPC SN95G5V3 (Barebone)

And the microphone does not work. No matter which one, how I set it up, it just fails to work. My boyfriend had the same shuttle a while ago (different machine but same model) and couldn't get his microphone to work either. APPARENTLY, it has something to do with drivers for the soundcard...

Anybody have a similar experience and know how to fix it? This kind of thing is a bit beyond me... :)

You should get a mac ... things just work better on a mac.

Sorry ... couldn't resist.

I had a problem before with a mic.  I tried everything I could to get it to work and all I ever got was static recorded.  It did turn out to be a matter of the sound card.  I had to get a new one.

Hope this isn't the case with yours!

Depends how you are hooking it up to the PC. Line-In, Mic, etc.

Could be something as simple as the "microphone" option being set to "mute", or low volume, on the windows audio panel.

If it's a USB mic, you could try: Start > Control Panel > Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices > Sounds and Audio Devices > Voice, and check to see if the "Voice Recording" default device is set to your mic.

That is, if your mic is being detected.

EDIT: Which brand of soundcard is it?

Microphones are tricky, because in many cases they simply don't work with your computer no matter how you try. I have tried various head-sets/microphones on several computers, and they work pretty randomly, often without showing conflicts with other hardware or programs.

My PC has some weird drivers and I have to run a program that came with my computer to activate my card or something. Have you deleted any audio programs that came with your PC?
