Again, walkthrough time. I started again on The Devil's Shroud, part II (not finished yet). To make sure that you missed nothing:

Enter hotel. Examine hotel brochures and take one and look at it in inventory.
Ring bell. Talk to staff, give reservation. Go to hotel room (exit south). Go to
bed and sleep.

Dream: Go left, left, use boat. Enter Escher's house. Take stairs down to get to
a new view, then go up and left, to a new view, to to flower pot (the small one)
and take it. Go back, down and right, to a new view and then stairs down and
immediately up again to balcony (do not leave this view). Use flower pot on vase
(which breaks it) and see the key. Now go to the right, to a new view and get
the key. Go back and down, so you can access the keyhole on "top" of the door
that now is set into the ground. Unlock the door. Go back downstairs, then in
the next view go up and right into the next view, then downstairs to the door
with the keyhole on top of it. Interact with the door, then go left, left and
throught the tunnel and wake up.

Open suitcase, look into it and take camera and walkman. Switch on TV. Listen
to the news, switch TV off and leave room and hotel. Go to the right, again to
the right and use the metro. Travel to Vieux Lyon, right, examine wall to the
right of the stairs, go upstairs to the next view, look at everything, nothing
to do here, south to the shops, take (buy) newspaper and read it. Go back north
and then east, upstairs, upstairs, upstairs and then to the left (to the tele-
scope). Read sign, interact with telescope only once! and enjoy the view on the
city of Lyon. You can see several places and also the hotel. Go back to the
church and to the metro. Back to the entrance of the hotel, then talk to the
taxi driver. We will go to the abbey. The police man will stop us. So go left
and talk to the fisherman. Look at the pin on his jacket. Use the camera on the
pin. Go back to the hotel and into the room.

Look at and pick up bracelet under the desk, examine it. Use computer and start
graphics program. Acquire, use camera from inventory as source, then magnify pin
and use the "look" icon to learn that the fisherman is eager for perch. Exit
program and stop the computer. Go to the shops and find perch, take (buy) it.
Back to the taxi and drive to the abbey again and to the fisherman. Show him the
perch. Leave this spot and come back. The boat is now empty and Leo will free
the perch.

Use boat and go to the abbey (head for the sandy spot). Enter. Watch the scene,
then enter the door just to the right of the entrance. When Leo looks out of the
window, he can interact with the pulley and take a habit. EXIT and to to the
tree in front of the boat. Use the habit on Leo, he now looks like a monk. Go to
the area behind the guarded house, where the cow is, go in front again, past the
police man and into the church. Examine columns and pictures on columns, then
examine the place where the dead body was found. Leave the church, go back to
the tree and interact with the tree to change clothes. Enter again, through the
door and interact with the drain pipe of the roof to climb roof. Go up and right
and right again and through hole. Get an egg from the shelves, some forage from
the through and feed from the bag. Climb the roof and back again and interact
with the window.

Interact with the pulley, take habit, interact with the pulley and take the
habit. In inventory, search habits to find a key. Go to the tree and change
clothes again to become a monk. Go to where the cow is and throw egg on plum and
take plum. Put plum in manger, put forage in manger and drop feed in front of
the cow, at the leftmost place! The police officers throusers are now dirty and
we can go into the cell. Look at everything, try to open the drawer, then use
the key on the drawer. Look into drawer and read book, to turn pages interact
with the lower edge and in the middle of the book (where the pages join). Learn
about the bookstall. Leave the scene and interact with the tree and use boat to
get back.

next steps are:

Go to hotel room and examine suitcase. The length of cloth from Turin has been
stolen, report it to the hotel staff. Talk to the man in the lobby again. Leo
will ask him about the bookstalls. Then go to the telescope. If you do not have
change ready, go into the church and interact with the wallet on the offering
box. Use the wallet on the telescope, use hand icon on the embankment. Look
through the telescope and search the area. You will see the book stalls and the
street with the shops. Exit and use the hand icon on the hotel. You will see
Giuseppe. He entered the hotel room again to search for the bracelet. Exit and
use the hand icon on the Place Bellecour. Giuseppe is hiding behind the statue.
Time to follow him. Go to the Place Bellcour, save here your game and keep this
savegame for now. Use the looking glass icon on the statue and a short cut
scene will follow.

Now some arcade game...

For the next sequence, save often. Leo will shadow Giuseppe, but he must be very
careful not to loose him and not to be seen. If Leo complains about being seen
or if he cannot see Giuseppe anymore, you have to load an earlier savegame. I
used two savegames in case I made a mistake just before saving.

When you shadow Giuseppe, you must find a hiding spot in several screens and use
it immediately. But first, go to the Place Bellecour and use the hand icon on
the statue. A cut sequence with hour clock will follow and you cannot interact,
but as soon as you arrive at the old city of Lyon, it is your turn.

1. screen, stairs at the old city of Lyon: Hide behind the wall left of the
stairs, and when Giuseppe turned around to verify that he was alone, follow him.
To do so, walk up to the wall, use the hand icon on the wall until Leo ducks and
as soon as the hour glass disappears, follow him.

2. screen, Madam Libault. Just follow him, but do not overtake.

3. screen, the stair at the restaurant, walk behind the wall just left of the
restaurant and as soon as Giuseppe turns around, follow him. He will be almost
at the top of this screen, so wait long enough, but then hurry or he will dis-
appear.

4. screen, middle of the stairs, hide at the entrance (black door) left of the
stairs.

5. screen, top of stairs. Hide at the greyed out en-
trance. This was the most difficult spot. I wait a second, then I used the walk
icon to go directly to the entrance. Took me several tries.

6. - 9. screen, front of church, follow him to the subway, go underground, step
into the train, in train go down (south) and sit down behind Father Giuseppe.
Take newspaper from inventory and read it (use it's icon on Leo).

When the train stops and Father Giuseppe leaves the train, use hand icon on the
door to follow him. Another cut scene. Leo will automatically follow Giuseppe
and listen to a conversation with another monk. When Giuseppe leaves the area,
Leo will automatically hide behind some trees, but when he goes back to the
garden, the monk will have disappeared (you cannot do nothing about it, I think).

As for the telescope, what do you mean by embankment? Where is that? I can't get the telescope to move where I want it to.

That place is at the river, about at the middle of the screen and on the farther side from the telescope. Click on the upper shore where you see some green from the trees.

BTW: You have to use the wallet or insert a coin every time when you arrive at the telescope and want to use it. Try to find other locations (you can either point the telescope to these locations by using the hand icon on the corresponding hotspot or the game will tell you that there is no reason to point the telescope there). If you are out of change you can use the wallet on the offering box in the church that is next to the telescope. If you changed money, use the coin from the inventory on the telescope instead of the wallet.

no hot spot. Am I clicking on the trees, the river,a building? I knoiw I am lookin for a bookstall but its hard to tell with the graphics where that is

Yes!
Up and a little bit to the right of the telescope is a bridge (the bigger one). Click on
the upper bank, a bit to the left

Perhaps you should talk to the man in the hotel again. The hotspot will only be visible when you asked him about the book market and he told you that it is
somewhere at the river.

Before you can ask him, you must have read the notebook in the cell of the dead monk and used the looking glass on the note that mentions the purchase of a book at the embankment.

Finding Giuseppe

During the game, you should spot Giuseppe in your hotel room twice. Use the telescope to find out that he broke into your room, then point it to the statue that is at the square next to the hotel. If you see Giuseppe hiding behind the socket go down, look at the statue and follow him.

Sorry but I still can't figure out how to spot Guiseppe through the telescope. Everytime I use it I only see the book stall. Can you be more specific on how to find him through the telescope. And can I only buy 1 coin at a time from the altar?

Only one coin at a time, but this is sufficient. To find Giuseppe: Use the looking glass to find the hotel, east of the bookstalls. You will easily find the square with the statue, the hotel is to the right of it. If you use the hand icon on it, the telescope will point into this direction. Look through the telescope (as long as you don't leave it, one coin works well). Search the hotel and look into the windows. Then point the telescope to the Place Bellecour and see Giuseppe hiding: Behind the statue of Louis XIV on a horse, not the athletic one in the park.

Thank you I got it now. Okay, the trouble I am having now is by the restaurant because while he is walking I have the hour glass and so cannot move. Then when I try to move its too late he sees me. Any hints on how to beat this. Did you have trouble at the restaurant area?

Desimaui, read the hints on this page, up where you see "Now some arcade game...". It was also difficult for me and I restored the game several times.

I try to make it more clear about the restaurant: When you enter the scene, go straight to the house that is to the left of the stairs and hide behind the wall, before the hourglass appears. When the hourglass disappears, go up the stairs immediately. You have to act swiftly. I recommend keeping more than one savegame during these scenes. Save when you enter a new scene, but use alternate savegames and also keep one savegame of the scene at the statue, before you shadow Giuseppe, just in case everything fails.

Okay, It was tough but I made it through. I rode the train hiding behind the newspaper and have overheard the conversation between the two monks. Now I am at the bookstall but the seller will not turn the book over to me. Only to Father Jacques. What do I do now?

Look at the dealer. You noticed that he was angry about the birds? Click on the river (important) and examine the pegs at the right hand side, under the table. There is a bolt, but you have to distract the dealer before you can do anything with it. Go back to the rowing boat at the abbey and record the bird song. Try a bit until you succeed. Then go to the hotel and use the computer. Open the sound program and use "acquire". Use the walkman as source. The only thing you can do is to use "reverse". The result sounds like the birds at the bookseller.

I got the book now and I returned to the Abbey after I read it. The Police are not there anymore and I can go right up the walk instead of taking the boat. The problem is that I don't know what to do in the church???

When you read the book, make sure that you click on the pictures.

Try to take pictures from the columns in the church of the abbey. It is too dark. Go to the dead monks cell, it is still closed. Go around the corner to where the cows are and look at the window and the lamps. Click on them.

Back to the rowing boat and find there an anchor. Take it and go back to the window of the monks cell.

About the photos

You will need copies of both pictures of the column. You can't use the camera, but you can use paper (you have it in the inventory already) and a pencil. The pencil will break. From the room where you got the egg you can also get a cork and burn it with the lighter. You will have a lump of coal.

More trouble I am afraid. First I can't get the cork off the wine bottle. Did you have trouble? Secondly, what paper? Do you mean the newspaper because that is all I have that closely resembles paper. I tried using it on the pics once I used the hour glass on it but nothing happens. I lassoed the broken light outside the window (near cow) but not even sure what I could want in the room again. Help please!!!

I think that you must finish some tasks in a certain order. When I played through the game I had the same problems until I tried something else in another place. Also, it is important that you use the hand icon and look icon on important items. Not only to see a hint, but also to advance. I did the following things in order:

First try to take a picture of one of the columns. There is a relief of a devil on each one. Before you take the picture you cannot do anything else.

What to do in the room of the dead monk: Open the drawer and take the pencil. You can't take the other item yet.

About the paper: You have a notebook. Use it on either column and then draw with the pencil. The pencils tip will break and fall off.

Now get the cork and use the lighter on the cork.

Back to the columns. Use the notebook again on the reliefs. You will need both reliefs, they are not identical!

Hope this helps. I enjoyed the game much, most so for the interesting and mysterious story and think it is worth finishing it, even though there are some difficult puzzles in it.

S, regarding the pictures on the columns: I can't take them, I can only use the magnifying glass on them which gives me a close up. When I try to use the camera on it, it says I don't have enough light and no flash. When I try to pick up the pencil in the drawer, he says, "I don't need it!" I still can't seem to pick up the cork, even through the
magnifying glass identifies it as a cork. When I try he says, "I don't need it." I'm afraid I am stuck!
