Hi
having read the manual i am still deep in dark clouds as to how to play music during my game.

Do i need any extra patches or programs?

My version is 262.

Could someone please give me a quick walkthrough as to how to achieve this.

most of the sounds and music will be mp3.

thanks to anyone that can help.

You shouldn't need any extra patches/programs, just AGS, the Manual and a bit of patience.

1) Get your MP3. Obviously.
2) Name it music1.mp3 (or another number, if you already have music1). If you've got the 'Hide Known extentions' option turned on in Windows Explorer, make sure it's not called music1.mp3.mp3
3) Place it in the main folder of your game - NOT the 'Compiled' folder. (I.e. if your game is called 'Test2' the file should be in a folder in your AGS folder called Test2, not Test2/Compiled.)
4) Open AGS and tell it when to start the music playing. OK, so this is probably the bit you need most help with, but since you weren't specific about what you're having problems with, it's hard to give specific answers. Open the manual and look up PlayMusic. To make a track play as soon as the player enters a room, there's the 'Play music on room load' box on the Room editor window.
5) Test the game.
6) For sounds, it's pretty much as above, except you call the files soundX.mp3 and use PlaySound.

One thing though, I've noticed AGS can be a bit funny about playing some MP3's - I think it's a compression thing, and might be even more of an issue with you using an older version of AGS. So, if you've tried all the above and it doesn't seem to be working, it could be the file and not something you're doing/not doing. Have you tried different file types (e.g. midi), or even recompressing the MP3?
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.
