Hello Everyone,

I posted here before and got a good amount of people to help out, but unfortunately the game slipped into hiatus for a bit and I lost the majority of my team. But I am picking the game back up as a New Years Resolution and could really use the help. So, basically I am looking for anyone that can help out. But here are some positions that I am hoping for.

AGS Expert- This is my first game creation Ever, and I am more of the artistic mind than the group leader type, so I don't have the proper time to learn the program. And what I am looking for is someone who feels comfortable using Adventure Game Studio, so team members can give them resources and basically this person will just put it into the program and have sort of a "Master Copy". Things like script pages, sprites, backgrounds, music... I know it sounds simple, but it would be a HUGE benefit to me and they will receive credit for their work in the game.

Story Writer(s)- Preferably a Laura Bow and mystery fan, this is someone who I have to be in close contact with to throw ideas around. I am looking for someone who is a creative writer, to help me give the game a bit of a facelift. They will work with me on writing dialogue and game events. This could be a group of people, I am open minded.

Scripters- We don't have much in the way of scripting right now, but I will be needing some good scripters. So anyone interested would be appreciated.

And to show you a little of what I had going before the hiatus, here are a couple of pictures I have. The screenshot I threw together in Photoshop, it's not finished and hasn't been in AGS yet, so the sprite's shading and proportions aren't right yet and the backgrounds need a little work. So, again it's just for show.

So, anyone interested in helping out just drop me a line at Dump401@yahoo.com.
Thank you for your time, and I hope to be hearing from some of you.

Another screenshot is coming (he PMed me about it) so don't comment on the forum rules please :)

Here is the second screen, it still needs alot of work but it gives you more of an idea what the game will look like.

Domino

Looks simply amazing. That is all I can say at the moment.

CosmoQueen

I never thought I'd ever see a remake of this! It looks great.
KPop and AGS....................that is my life.

Mortadelo

Good luck with your game!

The only thing I didn't like very much was the Laura Bow sprite.... It seemed strange, don't know, I didn't like the way she looked on screen (the arms, the pose, etc), it should be improved, in my opinion.

It was about time someone made a remake of this great game :D

Dump401

Thank you all for your responses. I just wanted to let you know, that that isn't the final sprite. She won't have her arms sticking out so oddly in the game. I just put her in the screen to show about how she'll look.

I'd like to wish you the best of luck with your project. It's lookin' quite nice, good luck!!!

Goo, goo, ga, joob!!!

Radiant

Please do something about the storyline. It could stand a LOT of improvement.

Dump401

Radiant, to answer your response, we plan on giving the game a big facelift. Make the flow of the game smoother, develop an easier way of questioning suspects, and expand on the character's backstories more. But keep all of the original game's highlights intact.

voh

I always get the feeling I'm the only one who feels this way, but maybe I'm the only one who cares enough to say it. I honestly don't know.

But I simply cannot stand semi-3D characters on 2D backdrops. Not unless they're rendered exquisitely. It's a personal turn-off, because they almost always create a stylistic contrast between character and background.

Otherwise, there's not much info on what the game is about, is there. I see Radiant commented on the storyline, but I've looked this thread over a couple of times and I can't see anything he might be referring to. Am I missing it or is Radiant psychic? *gloomy, scary music in the background*

I'm guessing I'm missing it ;)
Still here.

Voh:

The game is a remake from SIERRAs game Colonel's Bequest... So anyone who has played the game knows the story (and the wlkthrough more or less)... :)

Looks interesting and quite lively with all those colours. The best of luck to the creator! :D

voh

Aw, yeah. Should have realized that. Never was a fan of the Laura Bow games though, so that explains it :)
Still here.

Dump401

Voh, you are right, I should've explained that this was a remake of Sierra's "Colonel's Bequest". And I tried different sprites on the background, but the old pixelated "Laura Bow 2" sprites didn't look right. I personally felt these were the only ones that worked, and the sprite artist has a fully rendered 3D model, so hopefully you won't find the combination too off-putting. And, since you weren't a fan of the games, if there were any ideas you had to make the game more entertaining I would be more than willing to hear them. I'm looking to work on the game's weaknesses, so that would help out.

Back to business, I am still in need of:

STORY WRITERS: Creative people looking to work in a small group, to look over the original story, develop game elements further and possibly change some ideas around to create a better flow for the game. Also, possibly work on adding some challenges or puzzles. I have a private forum set up where we can discuss ideas, and I have a enhanced story layout set up.

ANIMATOR: I have created some portraits, like the one below from "Laura Bow 2", and I am looking for someone that feels comfortable in animating them to look like they are talking, and blinking their eyes. Each character will probably have three different heads to animate. But I am not really looking to lip-sync, more like a repeating talking/blinking animation.

BACKGROUND ARTISTS: I bit off alot when I took on this art style for the game, I knew it would look impressive but it takes a bit of time per screen. I am looking for someone that feels they can achieve this style. I will be more than willing to work with artists, to show them how I did it. I just used Photoshop to put these together, so nothing fancy is required.

Again, anyone interested can reply to Dump401@yahoo.com. Thanks for your time, and I hope to hear from you!

QuoteBut I am not really looking to lip-sync

You know, lip-sync is no harder, for the artist, than a usual animation - he still needs to do a few frames, maybe more than usual, and that's it for him. And theoretically, in AGS the problem should only be sorting out a few phenomes. Phonems. Whateverems. So there's no reason for you not to lip-sync if you want to.

Dump401

Oh, cool. Thanks for the information, I figured it would be a difficult process. So, I am open to either way.

I AM STILL IN NEED OF TEAM MEMBERS! Positions listed above in my last post, we could really use the help.

Blackthorne

I happen to think that the plot of the Colonel's Bequest is fine the way it is.  Changing it would be an example of hubris.

However, I do wish you luck on your project and I think your backgrounds are looking lovely.  I hope your sprite animation goes well, too.

I know it has been a very longtime but Laura Bow games were always my favourite and I have just discovered this thread.  Any updates on the game?
