Al Quest 1

I am stuck in the above-referenced game.  There is a walkthrough, but it is incomplete.  I am now in a town where the one street (Endless) goes on and on (hence the name).  Even though there are side roads, they all go to the town.  I am done with what I have to do there, but I can't seem to get back to my house.  The walkthrough says to go to the backyard, but it doesn't tell how to get to the backyard.  Hopefully someone else has played the game and will be able to help.  Thanks.

Ah, suburbia!
I think if you head to the left eventually you will get out.  Some of the rooms loop back to the right, so if that doesn't work, try heading up or down and then continuing to the left.

I did die, but went back to a saved game.  I had gone to the right on Endless about 5 times, but figured I wasn't getting anywhere, so I clicked left once, and I was at a street that went downtown, which was about where I had started.  It was as if I hadn't really gone to the right as many times as I had.  Will try going to the left several times, but think it will be about the same as when I had gone right several times, hence the name Endless.  Any other suggestions?

Well, it's set up as a continuous loop on some levels, with an exit to the left on others.  If you go left three/four screens and don't get out, then go up or down and go left for another three or four screens.  If THAT doesn't work, go up/down again and then left for another 3-4 screens.   You will break out of the loop in a maximum of twelve rooms (I think eight, but it's been a while).

I'm wondering if the reason I can't get out is because not everything is done where I am at.  Went downtown again, and talked again with the the guy in the alley who wants a match and again with the guy in the bar who has cigarette paper - do I get the paper and give to the guy in the alley - I know he needs a match, but thought maybe he could also use the paper.  I also need coal for the death ray.  Where do I get the match and the coal.  Do I need to get the key from the guy at the bar?  Are some of these items needed for the next place I go or do I get them at the next place and come back here and give those items to these men?  Thanks.

I can't exactly remember the order of operations, but I think when you talk to the fortune teller she tells you that "what you seek is in your own backyard" or something like that.  If you try walking through the hedge in your backyard you end up going to a far away land where you find an Alice in Wonderland-type mushroom that shrinks you.  If you use that in conjunction with the rolling papers it creates a fake cigarette/joint that you can offer to the thug.

The hints were helpful.  I was trying to find the coal that would be on something obvious, but so far haven't found it.  Probably looking in the wrong places.  I was trying to distract the owner, but so far not successful - will keep trying.  The last one, of course, I have to find the way to get back to my back yard.  Do you think I have to do everything that I possibly can at this place before I can find my way back home?

    There's a complete walkthrough of the game in this thread.  In general you can go wherever you want at any time, except where there is a barrier that requires an inventory item -then you need that inventory item!

Well, the walkthrough isn't very complete.  It still doesn't tell me how to get to the other places.  I have completed everything in the land that I am in (the guy in the alley, fortune teller, the two people waiting for the bus, etc.), I do have the magic mushroom that I got before going to this place.  I guess I need more help from a walkthrough to tell me how to go from place to place, what needs to be done/finished in one place before going to the next one.     I am really confused.  Thanks for your help though BaRon.

Finally finished the game when I at last I found my way out of the town and back to my house.  The garage that is by the two that are standing waiting for the bus - that's Al's garage.  Guess I wasn't paying attention to where I had gotten out of the house and to the town, or on the street.  Click on the side of it and you're home.  In looking at the walkthrough I had gotten most of the stuff, so after finally getting home it was pretty easy to complete.
