Hey, so this may be incorporated into a series of short films and/or a VERY small (like, 3 levels short) adventure game.
Anyway, i've been having a bit of trouble with our large pixellyÃ,  friend here (he's that big because, if the small game does go ahead, it'll be run at 640x480).

I'm going for a Space Marine-ish sort of thing or the "Master Chief Look" if you like. My current and most pressing problem is i'm not sure how to go about "Beefing Him Up". It may just be gut instinct, but his physical features call out more for Stephen Hawking than Q4's Matthew Kane.
Also, i'd like to definitely keep the blocky look (it may just be a gut feeling again, but i really like the feel of big pixels.), but i would like to use some smaller pixel sizes for small features, such as the shotgun. I'd really like to include a crest or something on it.
Cheers,
Fluke.

Fluke, what is this?

Heavy pixels mixed with tiny ones?
At best, this sprite is awfully weird.

I don't think it'll work in any game. Even if you like pixellated look, keep them at same size atleast!

For 640x480, the sprite is awfully huge.

Apart from that, the sprite looks quite okay. What I would do is lower the crotch a bit. Noones feet start directly under belt. Also, stomach could be a bit lower, he looks sorta like an ape with such long hands.

Heh, i expected something like thisÃ,  ;D.
Well, yeah, like i said, i really wanted to establish the theme that this char encompasses, big pixels. Also, after checking it on a 640x480 resolution, it really isn't THAT big.
I have also lowered the 'crotch' area a little.
Will upload new version when i get a chance.
Cheers,

Fluke - if I may, I think what InCreator was trying to say is that you've mixed really big pixels with really small ones, giving the sprite an inconsistent feel. Perhaps if you kept all pixels the same size...

I think I know what style you want to go for, why don't you indeed use big pixels, but like this:

That way you can keep the blocky look, but instead of an ugly resolution-mix, you'll get a cool Yoshi's Island-level boss-look.

No it's not ..
why do you ignore all the suggestions people give you?
You only made the sprite overally smaller, which makes the helmet look .. not so good.
Look at the edit Ben made, I'm sure you could do something like that as well.

So, use constant pixel size, leave a small gap between the belt and the line between legs.

Third update:

*Kept pixel size persistant.
*Added in a couple of tiny features.

Mr Flibble

The gun sights, the right arm, and the right leg are just some of the places were you have critically failed to keep the pixel size persistant despite your claims.

I'm guessing you drew this in MS Paint quite small, and then multiplied the size and added in extra detail to try and round it off. I can tell because I did the same thing once.

It does not work.

Either draw it small and keep it small, or start again and draw it big.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

You did? I don't see ANY changes, apart that outlines are even messier now.
You are either not getting the point at all or have some phobia against wasting more than 10 seconds on a picture.
I quote Eigen:
"Look at the edit Ben made, I'm sure you could do something like that as well."

* The crotch is still there
* The pixels are still messy. Tiny pixels on fingers and large on all outlines?
* I don't see any improvement on helmet. Why did you use >extra< large blue outline on it? While point was to keep ALL outlines at same size?

I suggest to post if you really need help; or are ready to use it.

R4L

Not to be an ass, but this doesn't deserve to be in a film, not unless you fix it up and stop ignoring others' suggestions Flukey.

Im not going to tell you what to improve, because others already have. Hell, you wouldn't listen anyway would you?

Huh? I've lowered the crotch since InC's last post, i've fixed up the size of the helmet outline, and i'm working as i type on making sure everything is to correct size!

Fluke man! Fluke! Look at your own crotch man! Do you see anything bulging there at all? No? Do your legs go into your belly man?

zewb

Also, flatten the feet at the bottom. It looks like he's got dinner rolls for shoes.

I mean this...

EVERY rocket man should have some balls.
But yes, since all outlines are so messy, better make a whole new one and don't repeat crotch mistake.

monkey0506

As for the dinner-roll-shoes...it's probably because, aside from the outline being moved out...1...or 20 pixels...depending on how Fluke decides to count it at any given second...his feet are only as wide as his legs, and have no shading whatsoever.

Eigen

hey, fluke

how's your edit coming along?
