Now, I know you need to manipulate some things before you can use them in this game, but I'm not getting very far.

Spoiler

I need to heat the steel plate up. Nothing happens if I put it in the fire or the stove. I've tried using the contraption by the bed but that doesn't seem to work.

I also can't attach the strips of leather to the machine outside.

I take it the machine outside is the conkwogger - it doesn't seem to mention  anywhere in the game what the conkwogger is supposed to be.

PS:
Spoiler

I've attached the pins to the wheel of the machine outside. I still seem to have them in my inventory though - is this a bug, or do I have an unlimited supply?

I;ve got the same questions with this game -  I am also finding inventory hard to use - how can you tell what is in there - for me it only provides info on some of the items.

I've come a tiny bit further:
Spoiler
After you have tried to tinker (hammer) and heat the plate you can take the fireplace equipment. When you use that with the plateÃ,  Wooly says 'The best place for me to work the metal is at the range'. But the stove still won't have it!

Errr...and then what do we do?

Better yet, has anyone put together a full walkthrough yet?  I can't even leave this place!  Well, ok, I can get outside where Unc is, but I can't leave offscreen.

Like Dave Barton, I'm totally stuck too. Can someone help, please?

Spoiler

I've put the pins and the plate on the conkwogger. The bits of string are supposed to be used to fix it too, I think, but nothing happens if I use them on it.

It's a shame that this game is so beautiful to look at but is so fiddly to play. You can't tell what is in the inventory. There don't seem to be enough hints to enable you to progress.

I really want to like this game.  I think the look is great, its got a very good humorous plot, the concept that you have to "tinker" with some objects rather than simply using them is a unique concept, and I'm just a big fan of dwarves to begin with. ;)

But what I don't like is that you can't "look" at most items in your inventory, and its hard trying to click on just the right spot with some actions & items to get the desired result.  I believe it was the KQ3 remake that made it so much easier to know where to click by putting one different-colored pixel into each action & item icon...this would be a great addition to Wooly!

Again, I *want* to like this game, and with these additions I think it would be great!

Dave and I never got any reply on this... can anyone help out?

Spoiler

Have you:

heated the steel plate?

Bent the steel plate with the hammer?

Cooled the steel plate in the water?

Used the steel plate on the conkwagger?

Used the pins in the steel plate?

Used the cog on the steel plate?

Used the pins in the conkwagger wheel?

Hammered the pins?

Used the strips of leather on the completed device?

Used the device?

I'm not sure what you expect from a game made in a few days, but the interface was one of the concessions made rather late to get the game done in time for the competition.  Is it functional?  Yeah.  Is it great?  No.  If I expand the game I'll definitely get rid of the inventory gui and do what I was going to do, make a screen with parts lists so you can build things like a mini game.  I just ran out of time.

paolo

OK, thank you for the feedback. I didn't realise it had been done in only a couple of days. Sorry if I sounded too harshly critical. I was just a bit frustrated at not being able to progress with the game.

I've finished it now. There was something I hadn't picked up.

My reply was more to Dave Barton and was meant as an explanation rather than a retort, so don't worry about it  :D
