Stuck at beginning of Escape From Evergreen Forest

I'm at the beginning. I've talked to the thirsty tree, gotten the branch and the white flower, talked to the wizard (he destroys the bridge everytime) and been in the entrance of the cave. That's as far as I can get and I've been in every screen it will let me and "looked" at everything in the screens and am unable to see anything else,etc.A hint or two, please?
