Can't stuff bra in Leisure suit larry 2 point and click

For some reason the game won't let me stuff my top with either soap or money.  I've tried doing right after changing into my bikini top and after walking around a bit.  I know that's what I have to do to get passed the KGB on the beach.  How can I make it work?!

If I recall correctly, try doing it right before you change into your bikini top.
