Why I hate the Wii!

ManicMatt

This was me in my videogame shop in the past six months:

Customer: "Do you have any Wiis?"
Matt: "Sorry, none."
Customer: "Do you know when you'll be getting any in?"
Matt: "I don't know I'm afraid."

Imagine that conversation, being asked to you, now every 20 minutes in the past few months, 5 days a week. Infuriating, huh? The frequency has been increasing as we get closer to christmas.

So I created a sign! It's on my counter and it reads:

"Sorry, we don't have any Nintendo Wiis in stock"

And next to that, an additional sign:

"...And we don't know when we'll get any in!"

So every 20 minutes I just point at the first sign, and sometimes have to point out the second sign! It makes some people laugh actually. It stops me from going insane!

I've also had to unhook the phone sometimes because 100% of the calls getting through would be Wii enquires.

Please Mr Nintendo, make enough stock of your Wiis and DS Lites and make more profit and keep us shopkeepers sane!

Rant over. Discuss your opinion if you like!

People are going nuts for them here also. Nobody has any. Pre-orders are being compiled, but chances are slim that they will be filled.

Tesco sold a woman an empty box; she only released it didn't actually contain a Wii when she was preparing to wrap it.

Heehee.

i was thinking of taking advantage of the shortage this christmas and selling mine for like £400 (hey, it includes 4 remotes, 2 nunchuks and 4 games! plus those spiffy remote jackets nintendo are bundling now and therefore are offering for free through their website) to some desperate parents :D
but i'm not that mean  :-\
plus i live in hope that way one i will own some games that are actually fun to play  ::)

ManicMatt, do you have a lot of 360's and PS3's in stock? Are they selling well?

Just curious to know.

Nacho

Then you must say "Why I hate Nintendo stockage and delievery system", not "Why I hate the Wii"  ;)
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

(slightly OT:) A similar thing happened to me once when I was at the Oktoberfest. Saturday morning, 2nd weekend. A friend and I were sitting at one of the tables outside the tent, reserving it for the 10+ other guys to come.
People were crowding in the corridor between the tables, almost in two layers, and we were asked whether the free space was taken roughly two or three times per minute.
We took a chocolate wrapper and wrote "fully occupied" on it in five or so languages and simply pointed to it every time.
We didn't even have to interrupt our conversation ;)

Mr Jake

I was lucky enough to get mine trade in behind 2 chavs last march, muhaha.

I was not aware there were still shortages.

ThreeOhFour

There are Wii shortages?

I don't think we have any over here in Australia - I bought mine a few months ago (deciding it was time to purchase my first console ever (heh - and first TV)) and I just walked into the shop, pointed at the box and paid.

I never realised that they were in such high demand elsewhere - perhaps the same is here but I am out of the loop?

monkey0506

I can't speak for elsewhere, but here the status is:

No Wii For You!

I checked Walmart's website last night (literally ~24 hours ago) and they had no 'just the console' packages, but they had these 'Customer Choice Bundle's going for $578. So in 24 hours time they jacked their prices up by $100 and sold out. Go Walmart.

But withholding the consoles is a good strategic move on Nintendo's part. Even more so if they restock all the stores (to half capacity) a week before Christmas. And then they can just restock the shelves to full capacity the day after. 8)

Even if you're not a fan of the Halo series on Xbox, you probably know someone who is, and probably remember the Halo 2 hype. Bungie/Xbox intentionally and purposefully withheld copies of the game from store shelves to drive up the demand. Ultimately this led to greater sales (:o the laws of supply and demand actually apply? ;)).

So if Nintendo withholds their console and then shortly before Christmas releases only a limited number of them, they could charge ridiculous amounts and people would pay it. They wouldn't want their precious darling children to have to suffer a Christmas without everything they wanted. :=

I personally hate the Wii with a passion. Not because it's a bad system, but because all the fat kids at my school see it as the end-all-be-all solution to their fat problems. It makes them look incredibly dumb when they say "Well the "Wii's better."
Guess what, fat kids? Tough sh*t. While you're madly swinging two sticks around, I'll be doing real things, like going out with women, or making games work in Linux, or I'll play my PS3, which I am proud of having.
It's not the system I really hate, it's the retarded attitude consumers have about it.
Especially those fat, friendless, anime-loving, socially-reclusive, depressing kids that fill up my school.
And for old time's sake, I'll leave with this. You have a Wii? Well so do I, only it lives in my pants, and my nunchuck is far bigger and more fun than yours.
Truth hurts.
Yeah, just had to vent a bit.
The fediverse needs great indie game developers! Find me there!

Hahahaha!

Since when was Wii meant to be excercise? I sit down to play mine ( ;)) and even the games with lots of arm movements are about as excercising as cooking dinner.

I bought it because I liked the new control system and wanted to see how well it could be implemented, basically. PS3 and XBox 360 seemed to be more graphics oriented, and if I wanted that I would have just upgraded my PC.

Ha! You'd think they'd notice how light it was! Was it filled with old shoes?

I was thinking of doing that with my DS Lite if any parent gets desperate enough! I could just buy another after christmas. And as for some fun games, what about Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid prime? That's clearly a whole two games I can think of that came out recently worth mentioning! TWO!

Being a little known shop I only tend to stock 1 of each console, and just order another one when they're sold to come in the next day. The 360 sells okay, depending on bundle deal, and the ps3s are slow sellers, but then picked up on the 60gigs when people realised they're discontinued. I'm now having to stock the 40gig edition like everyone else as of today. Bum.

Similiar situation though! I'm thinking of making a new sign saying we have no DS Lites now too! Maybe just write "I don't have anything at all, don't ask me, please leave me alone!" ;D

There are Wii shortages?

I envy you.

monkey_05_06: And what if there are no sudden releases of Nintendo Wiis? I cant see them doing that. I dont have a clue what they're playing at. maybe if everyone plays a Wii word will get around that it's just a gimmick and might get dull like the Eyetoy does after a while. maybe!

They aren't intentionally under-supplying the market, they simply cannot manufacture them fast enough.

They've been trying to raise output ever since they started selling.  I guess China is busy turning out other products.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

No Wiis ANYWHERE. I told myself I would get one when we looked for one last Christmas. Boy was I wrong.

Now I'm STILL searching for one, and I can't find one anywhere. Hey, at least I'm not bugging shopkeepers.  ;)

vict0r

What? There is a shortage on Wiis? I'm pretty sure I've seen a whole bunch of them in the local GAME shop, but meh, what do I know?

It's not a gimmick at all. It's those blasted children's rights activists in China flaring up again. As for the EyeToy, plug it into your computer's USB port, Google "PS2 eyetoy drivers", download, and you've got yourself a fairly decent webcam. ;)

ManicMatt

I hear Gamestation had some Wii's in stock, but you have to buy FIVE selected Full price Wii games to be able to buy one. They call this a "bundle". I wonder what games those are? Spongebob Squarepants?
