Strange AGS Crash Error (SOLVED)

Hello all,

The following error has popped up twice in the last two days, crashing AGS when I save and test the game.

"An exception 0x0000005 occurred in AGSEDIT.EXE at EIP = 0x0049FC15, ACI version 2.72.652 while saving the room."

It's only happened twice and I can't get it to crash reliably (not that this is a bad thing). Since the second occurrence, I've tried repeatedly without success to get it to crash.

Any idea what's causing (or caused) it? The version of my game I'm working on is the post--beta testing version. I'm just tweaking a few things here and there before I release it in two months. If I have to go back to my last backed up build, I'll lose a helluva lot of work, so I'm hoping that this error doesn't mean my game files are corrupt in some way.

Thanks in advance,

- Ponch

The good news is that the crash is in the Editor, which means it won't affect people who play your game.

The bad news is that a crash while saving a room could lead to file corruptions. Have you double-checked that the rooms that were being saved at the time still load and function correctly?

I can't really provide much support for the 2.72 editor at this point, so as long as it doesn't start happening regularly, it's probably best to just put up with it. I would recommend making regular backups of your room files though, just in case.

Thanks, CJ. I'll sleep better tonight.
