Forum error: e-mail notification

I have "Receive forum announcements and important notifications by email" turned off. Nevertheless, I am receiving e-mail messages for "important notifications". This would seem to be an error.

What "important notifications" are you receiving? I'm not sure what one is.

Well, yesterday I received a forum notice via email for the first time, it's about the release of V3.0.1. I'd never received such notice before (apart from the old mailing list in AC era). Then I checked my profile setting, and found that I always have email notification turned ON.

So, it's either this function never worked before and works all of a sudden starting from now, or the other way round. There must be something.

Yep, same as with Gilbot, I received a notice over 3.01 (which I already knew about since I read it in the forums ). However, my notification was turned off. Perhaps this functionality was simply never used in the past?

In the past I've always used the AGS Mailing List script to send the new version emails, but this doesn't seem to be working on the new server so this time I sent a forum notification instead.

I'm not sure what SMF does, maybe if an admin sends the message then you always get it, regardless of your setting?

Anyway it shouldn't be a big issue, it's not like new versions are released every day
