Some lucky fans of the White Stripes got up close and personal with the band, which played impromptu concerts on a bus and at a bridge in downtown Winnipeg.
White Stripes duo Meg and Jack White, seen here playing a spontaneous gig on a Winnipeg bridge, are on a cross-Canada tour.
The Detroit duo, in the middle of a cross-Canada tour that has them visiting every province and territory, played to very small but enthusiastic crowd just before their main show in Winnipeg on Monday night.
The White Stripes, Jack and Meg White, serenaded a handful of fans on a city bus and then got off to launch into an acoustic set on a city bridge.
Thom Johnston, who was tipped off by a friend to head to a certain location, said he was surprised to discover it was a bus stop. Then a transit bus came, with the White Stripes in it.
"I was blown away. I was sitting right across from them, and they started playing songs. It was incredible," Johnston said. "It's really admirable. They care a lot about their fans, and just take the extra time."

Awesome, no?

It is cool.    But from the experience I drew from the Mars Rover thread no one in this community will care unless they themselves were on the bus    :P

I wonder if the older folks on the bus were half as enthusiastic as the people crowding around them with cellphone cameras.

"You guys, are like the awesomeist, I swear!"

I would have opted to hoof it at that point.

I really dig these new band promos that people have been doing. You dont have to play for a thousand people. Just 10 fans in a park will probably bring you more promo.

Weezer recently did a thing where they had fans bring an instrument to a small get together of 100 or so people, and they had a mini-jam session. Bands have directed their attention to their hardcore fans and put less attention on getting new fans, which I think is great.

Andail

That's cool. White Stripes are pretty high up on my list of desired live-experiences.

The White Stripes are more of a duo and less of a band.

Nethros

Not to mention, they suck =/

That's just my opinion, though.

Stupot

I'm pretty sure I've seen the White Stripes the Reading Festival once , but I seem to have forgotton if I'm lying or not, so it can't have been a very memorable set.

Who said they weren't?

And either way, does it matter even the slightest?

One of their managers has an argument with them about this very topic. --edit--- Shit its during part 2 and I can't find it on youtube.

I think the point is...

Give a five-piece band an acoustic guitar and have them busk on the street, and it'll be a lot different from what they'd do fully kitted-out on a stage.

Do the same with Simon and Garfunkel, and they'd pretty much do what they always do and not change a thing about their performance.

I don't know what the White Stripes did, exactly, but if Meg beat out any kind of rhythm on a bus seat or something, it's not much of a leap from the usual for them.

Plus, they do suck.
I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

I'm tired of pretending I'm not bitchin', a total frickin' rock star from Mars.

This is actually what I was thinking of when I wrote it. :)
