Is this the right thread? Well, is ArtGem a good sprite making program? I have it, but I just need to know if I should use Graphics Gale or ArtGem.

Tuomas

I used to have Artgem, and back in the day I used to all my sprite art with it. So basically I can but recommend it due to its abilities as a graphics program. The only problem that I see with it is that they don't make it anymore, so you're most likely not going to get any customer support or help whatsoever.. Graphics Gale I don't knpw, but I can say ArtGem would still be my nr 1 choise if I could register my copy again, but alas, I can't because it is no more.

Ghost

As a casual user I'd say Artgem has more functions, but Graphics Gale is okay too and easy to adapt to. I'm using it occasionally and know that several AGSers are sworn to it.

AutoPilot

Thanks for the fast replies, but I'll stick to both. I will draw certain thing on Graphics Gale, and certain things on ArtGem.

Tuomas

Yeah, through personal preferences, it's really not illegal to use all the programs available. Some might call it unconvinient, but hey, it's your call. And at least you've got a decent program. Most probably you'll start using the other a bit more by time, and in the end go for it completely.

ArtGem has layers, so for a free program it's excellent.

I use GraphicsGale for making animations, it's really great for that.

AutoPilot

I didn't know ArtGem has layers. And I'll try that, animating with Graphics Gale and drawing with ArtGem.

Ghost

Just for the books: Graphics Gale has layers too!

Inkoddi

I make all my graphics in MS Paint. My favourite tool is the colour replacement tool, aka the eraser.
I am also insane.

I use Pixen, which is the only sprite program that I've found for OS X. It is buggy and awful, and judging from the "developer log" page has not been worked on since 2005. I think I will try some of these other programs, here.

ProMotion & PaintShopPro7 FTW!

Cino

I've been also using PSP7 with Pro Motion for some time now, so I agree.
