I am inventing something (I know there is allready similar things but either way this is a bit different and I want to make it one day anyway!) and need some help.
I need to program a program for a device so you can install it on your mobile phone.
That device will send signals to the phone and the phone should then start an alarm. (or any ring tone by your choice).
And my questions are:

Anyone known with how bluetooth works and what is nessacary to do to get bluetooth on a device?
I would be thinking of programming a program for the phone so you can connect to the device and as mentioned above choose ringtone of your choice aswell(also some other settings though not gonna list it all).

So I basically want to make a device I can connect to through my mobile, the device will send signals under certain conditions that will make the phone "ring".

So I need to write a program for the mobile phone that does that when it recieves certain signals from the device.
(If you think PHP it would be similar to this:
Device sets $status = 1; when something happens
Mobile phone has for example
if($status == 1) { ring };)

So any help or any links about such things are appreciated.

Hope this makes sence, as ive written this between working for over 2 hours now!

It probably depends a great deal on the type of phone. Most phone apps are also foreground tasks, so a background task like your description seems unusual and maybe be harder or impossible.

I'm guessing the idea is to make your phone beep so you can find it when its lost. Once again, phoning the thing seems much easier...

Actually its to avoid loosing it, for example on the train or something.
Like ive left my phone on the train before.. (I was lucky to get it back though).

So I presume the alarm sounds when you move out of Bluetooth's very short range? It would be better to make the device make the sound rather than the phone, or it would possibly give people an opportunity to steal the phone.

Its supposed to work both ways.
So if you somehow loose the device but not the phone then you should know.
And I wouldent want the distance to be to big neither..

Sam.

So in order to stop losing your mobile, you need to keep track of another smaller gadget?

Hmm..
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Heh, thats why it works both ways...
The device would probably have some way of attaching it..

Sam.

Attaching it to what? If you attach it to the phone then it is pointless, if you attach it to yourself then you look like one of those douches with phone-belt clips.

As Andail pointed out, another phone would serve just as well, just get a friend to ring it until you find it. Seems to me like you are just multiplying your tiny gadget responsibility.

But, since I have no technical knowledge to add, I guess it's up to you!
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

I don't know how to do this, interesting as it sounds. But if anyone knows how to make games for mobiles, PM me. I have a high street name Tes cough co who are interested.

This is not meant to FIND your phone, this is to prevent you from loosing it in places you might never get it back from..

Sam.

Surely if you do need to FIND your phone, you have already LOST it?

Unless, every time you leave ANYWHERE you have to bleep for your phone?
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

As in places you might never get it back from:
trains, busses any other public places ..
Anywhere someone could actually steal your phone if you left it..

And by the way,
