I'm still not convinced.

Dying in a game is not a walking dead

You're right.

Quote from: Gilbet V7000a on Mon 19/01/2009 09:55:57
as you can always restore a game you saved at any point before the player got killed

That's the same with the dead end. But you have to restore to the point where you encountered the dead end.

provided you have a game saved.

Very obvious. But still also for the dead end.

Quote from: Gilbet V7000a on Mon 19/01/2009 09:55:57
If you don't have the usual habit of 'save early, save often' when playing an adventure game you are still forced to restart the game,

Again for both dying and dead ends... still no difference.

Quote from: Gilbet V7000a on Mon 19/01/2009 09:55:57
whereas for walking deads or dead ends you must restore a game which was saved at some point before you did something wrongly,

Doesn't that also count for dying?

Quote from: Gilbet V7000a on Mon 19/01/2009 09:55:57
any save games made after the wrong action are useless.

Now there's the only difference.
Dead end or walking dead is being dead without knowledge. But you're screwed so to speak. So you have to go back to a previous point. And you can't know which point since you don't know where the dead end started. Besides, before you realise you've hit a dead end it can take a long time.

In my opinion a game should never have dead ends, dying is something else. So far I agree but it was more the text from the game that gave me the illusion of not having to restore...

Quote from: the gameThe game will be fully playable from beginning to end and you will never get into a situation where you are forced to restart from the beginning.

A game with a dead end never has to be played again from the beginning, only from the point where you've hit the dead end. So this message was somewhat misleading to me.

I know it's a small margin between the two and I can understand what you want to say with restoring "some point" and "any point" but it's the text that confused me.

Giving the player a chance to back up his last stupid move is a good idea though (like in LSL6), but I don't think it is mandatory in adventure games. It is there as a gift.

It shouldn't have to be although it makes life easier. And I thank them greatfully for it.

Apart from this discussion, great game! With some very little discrepancies to the original (pointwise and layoutwise) I enjoyed playing it again. Can't wait for #2.

I think you're being way too technical. It wouldn't be King's Quest without deaths. It'd be pretty boring. I think most people know that dying is an integral part of the King's Quest experience. And all Sierra adventures, for that matter. I expect it. I'd be disappointed if they removed them.

You're right, I am. And King's Quest without dying isn't King's Quest. Only I thought they created a feature to undo the last 'false' move. Like in Besieged. Guess not. So I'll leave it to that.

I hoped for this too. And moat monster ate me! Random enemy attacks tend to get really annoying, especially given otherwise light-hearted atmosphere in this game.

Anyway, what really amazed me was voice acting. It's absolutely superb, and I'm really glad you guys managed to hire a professional, because bad voice acting can ruin even best games...

Not very far yet, will play later tonight. Loving it so far!

Wow this came out of left field!  Thanks so much - time to replay  :)

I've been playing it, and it looks fantastic!  The voice work is terrific too, and the lip-synced speech views.  Heh...I thought the no-dead-ends meant not dying too, so I tested it as soon as I came out the castle, and made him fall right in the moat. :)

I wandered for almost half an hour before I even had my first random encounter with the ogre, for a bit I thought you guys might have taken that part out.  (Gratefully, that is, because I always hated the wolf/witch/ogre/etc in KQ.  :) )

One question about a maaaybe possible bug - in the witch's house when she's gone, I was in the main room when I heard her coming back.  I clicked the door and made it out before she showed up, and then she didn't show up outside, either.  Is that normal?

Great work!  Now we just need to make a down-grade Atari version where Graham is just a red square moving on a big green square.  ;D

Oh!  P.S., your AGD intro video is hellishly impressive. :)

Wow! Great news! Loving it! But... IMO, King's Quest 2 VGA remake doesn't need any improvements. It's already a perfect masterpiece!!!

Very cool! I won it this afternoon. I felt like I was playing a real Sierra game while playing it. You all did a great job!

The only thing that I found bad was when you climb the tree to get the egg, it is very hard to walk out to the egg without falling out of the tree, it is not that hard in the original game. Can you modify the game to accept more walking space on the limb?

Looking forward to King's Quest 2!  ;D

The walking in the tree part was hard for me too. I kept falling, but i came up with a solution to it.

I would walk just a little bit farther towards the nest, then save. Then I would walk a little bit farther then save.  If I fell, I would just reload my save game and do the same thing.

Eventually after loading a few saves, I was at the nest. (After falling, I would load my previous save where i was close to the nest)

Before I kept saving and having to climb the tree all over again I was getting a little bit pissed off.

The first version of this game was what brought me to AGS in the first place. Your new remake looks really nice, I'm enjoying it so far! However I think I discovered a bug.

For some reason I am unable to grab onto the bird; I stand in the middle of the screen and jump right as he (or she) flies low but Sir Ghram never grabs on. Actually no matter where I stand I seem unable to grab on. I've tried for about ten minutes now, and I really don't think its a fault of my own. I even get them to overlap, but he just wont latch on.

Other than that, everything looks amazing! Honestly, I didn't really think there was anywhere TO improve this great remake, but you proved me wrong.

Are you sure you're supposed to stand in the middle of the screen, though? The way I remember it, there's a patch of ground off to the side that looks different, somehow (no grass?). You have to stand on that spot and jump when the eagle's shadow goes by.

Leon

The problem with the bird is the time you need to jump in the air. So you have to jumpo earlier than when the bird reaches it's lowest point. I must say, a very difficult point in the game indeed. Here's how I solved it:

Spoiler
Go to the center of the screen where two small rocks are on the ground. Use the hand cursor over the opening of the cave and when the bird is coming down, click to jump to grab it’s paws and when done right, the bird will take you for a flight.
