Okay,
Inspired by some post about few free books I want to mention an interesting page http://www.ebookee.com where links to many many MANY books are stored. I get most of my IT books there too. The site is completely legal as storing links to files isn't against the law :). Sometimes the links are dead but most of the time you just click the same title on the list of "similiar books" and you get to another page where links may be valid  :) (or not, but you just continue browsing :P)

I hope it's helpful to some of you :)

there are also sites with actual free ebooks, i downloaded the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft, a bunch of Yeats's poetry and Ninteen Eighty-Four from some australian one.
admittedly all the books on that site were really old, but books is books.

Hi Peeps.

I just been onto the ebook site cos I am thinking of buying 'C++ For Dummies'.
However I can't download it, frankly I would prefer the physical manifestation of a book anyway (but thats just me!).
I wanted to ask if anyone thinks this a good book for someone like myself, who has a limited knowledge of scripting.

If not this one then are there any other books where I could expand my understanding.

Thanks.

Creating digital copies of all written works would be great in my honest opinion, but it would be a massive undertaking. If people would start by making their own works in digital media that would be good. You wouldn't happen to have a link to the Lovecraft works, would you?

Here you go - lovecraft. Found on ebookee.com in like 2 minutes :) It's really not this hard to find books there. Do you people have problems searching? I thought I made it clear how to look for valid links and ignore dead ones XD

arrr

If you are an sf&f fan, google Baen free library for some free books and also check out truly free books for a broader range of genders. Hope it helps.

truly free books

Just to make things clear - I would buy most books I download but many of them are out of my reach (never released in my country) or getting them here would cost me a fortune :/

But I buy books I can buy! Printed version is always more handy to use than the digital ^^ It's also some sort of respect to the authors too :)

<James DiGrizz looks ashamed> Oh, looks like I didn't read the fine print at truly free books. My bad. Well, maybe others, unlike myself, will have a higher moral standard, reagarding the lending of theese aforementioned books. I apologize.

There's also the Gutenberg project.

Love this site. But if you want something that's not "out of date" (meaning tech stuff like programming etc.), you won't find there anything except antiquarian works.
I am a mighty pirate. Arrrrgh!
