I was wondering if anyone on board knows their way in streaming video, while it's been recorded (real time, or close to), and anything like that. For broadcast, or multicast, not a simple webcamera thingy...

If so, do PM me, or e-mail me. I'd like to go private on this. Sorry  :-X

Just for the record, when I was looking for something that would stream movies among a few friends I stumbled on Videolan. It took some time to set up, but after that, it worked a treat. :)

We all know what you mean with your "private live broadcasts". You're not fooling me and I'm not paying.

Not really sure what you want to know about this whether it's a site you're looking for or just info on files... I doubt I have the info you need, but if it's the first then I have a basic knowledge of free live streaming. I use Ustream.tv with my camcorder. It's free, and just runs through Flash applet which is great - you can include scrolling text and put YouTube videos all over your output screen.

There's about a 2 second delay from capturing to broadcast on the web-users end.

When your show is off-air you can leave a background slideshow or still link to YouTube vids I think. When you go "on-air" you can choose to Record the show and I'm sure anyone with a decent connection & bndw allowance would be able to record a good hour or 2 of streaming footage, which can then become the video of choice when you're off-air. Your "channel" can be embedded onto any web-page and is roughly the size of an embedded YouTube video.

The only thing I was looking for extra to that really was the ability to line up videos on your hard-drive or even just YouTube and have them play over the top of your stream when you're live. I'm not entirely sure about mixing either, between video channels - I don't think it's possible. If you wanted to try 3 cameras you'd probably find yourself clicking the "Which camera device to use?" button during live broadcasts and changing it everytime to your camera of choice - and praying that works; there sadly is really no multi-camera control with Ustream.

There are a couple of other sites I've tried, which were pretty basic and naff, but I'm sure there are a good few more I hadn't tried which might offer more. Naturally there are plenty of commercial packages for this, and no doubt a bundle of software out-there to set it up for you personally. $$$$$$how me the money!

Hope that helps a bit? You can always PM me if you think I might have more info :) I've been using streaming video formats for yeaaars but only recently tinkered with live broadcasting. But without going commercial & probably incurring licenses, there aren't many ways to broadcast my own 'streaming' videos. But I can always sit in front of a camera & chat rollocks live! And anything a camcorder can output, so can Ustream - and that's pretty neat in my eyes because it's not that hard to get material onto DV tapes.....

Good luck!

I have no idea about making your own streams, but I think www.justin.tv let's you do that.

Not that I condone such activities, but I have been known to stumble across justin.tv and www.atdhe.net for the occasional football match or if I've been too impatient to wait for Lost to appear on Sky1. I may or may not have used these sites to watch them as they they were being screened on their respective TV stations.
