Sprite designers

I've been able to sqeak by with MS Paint, but I was wondering, for you more gifted computer graphical desingers out there, what do you use to draw your sprites?

Personally, I mainly use Adobe Illustrator which is perfect for my "semi-realistic" comic style. When doing pixelart I often use Paint.Net. My brother, who does more realistic stuff, uses Photoshop.

Photoshop and Imageready (phased out with CS3 :S)

Anything with layers would work better than MSPaint, though I admit to never using it for sprites

I use MSPaint for sprites all the time. It's awesome!

But for low colour digital painting and touch-up, nothing beats Cosmigo Pro-Motion.

I use paint.net.  It has the features of paint but stuff like layers, gradients, etc.  Easy to use and free

I am not a GREAT artist (I do mainly backgrounds) but Neil, who is doing the character/portraits for the 3rd installment of Murran Chronicles uses it too.

lol, I really wished that I belong to this group.

I'm pretty old-school and abuse MsPaint but I need Gimp when tracing images. Also I just started with Paint.Net and it's pretty good, but, dunno, MsPaint has something magical in it. =D

Heck I even know how to make custom brushes and colour replacing in MsPaint. Pathetic really =)

I am not a seasoned adve... sorry, I mean artist. Anyway.

I use Paint.NET, although I had to find and install plugin that allowed to normally do Mirror/Rotate effect, because program itself does not have a decent tool to do those for some freaky reason.

Also it took some time to get used to it after MS Paint, because some things are done slightly more difficult in the Paint.NET.

You know, you have same problem as I had some time ago. I thought that it was all graphical editor I use that makes me draw bad
In fact after some practice I learnt you can draw magic things even in MS Paint. Additionally you can see around and notice that many good AGS games were drawn with such simple programs. AFAIK 5,6,7 Days were.

I can't imagine a more versatile pixel art tool for the PC than Jan Zimmerman's Pro Motion.  I pimp this product because I bought it, beta test it, and love it.

I think Progz masturbates over Pro Motion... Well I use GraphicsGale if that is any help for your list of sprite designers' software.

I second GraphicsGale. It's very neat.
For animation, I usually switch to ImageReady.

I'm a rookie artist, but I like GraphicsGale, as it's incredibly easy to use.

Paint Shop Pro 7 Anniversary Edition. It comes with Animation Shop, which is great for testing animations and making gifs and the main package, PSP, is pretty solid...

Also, you can pick it up really cheap because it's an old version.
