Hey guys,

Heres my first 'actual' project, please give me some feedback on it  ;D

Summary:

Crowley thought he'd seen it all, but even he couldnt count on the horrors lurking inside the Ruglin household. Can you help Crowley solve the Mystery and uncover the secret?

It is possible to die - So save often!

Screenshots

(Imageshack has seemed to have compressed the shit out of the screenshots. The game does look better in reality, honest.  :D)

Danman

I just started playing and died after like 5 minutes. Tried running. ;D . Cool game though.  I did notice a few like objects that you couldn't look at or interact with like the Glass case But that is not a big issue. I will try win it and give a better review.

Chicky

I refuse to play until you change your avatar.

Danman

With your avatar Chicky that looks like a Nazi symbol in the middle. ;D

It's the only time i've ever seen him smile.

Kyougi

I only got to play it for a few minutes before I got stuck, but so far it looks pretty good. It reminded me of 5 Days a Stranger and Clock Tower. Like Danman said, some things seem to be lacking interactions, such as the door inside the freezer and the glass case. It would also make a little more sense if Crowley walked up to a door before deducing it was locked =P

Toimia

Made minor changes on the game based on the feedback, such as the glass case and walking to the locked door.  ;D

Keep the feedback coming, I really appriciate it guys.

I also played a bit and even if I'm stuck (but I think I will find out by myself), I found some things that could be improved:

- Is the name of the game Deity or Diety? (look at the title screen)
- it's calendar, not Caldender
- when opening the cupboard in the TV room, the game character is standing before the object, so it can't be reached. I guess this happens with any object inside of other objects.
- The walk speed is very slow, especially for such a long corridor
- The walk sound is very annoying when playing with headphones. Maybe something softer would be better. Sounds like he's wearing Cowboy boots in the bathroom.
- The walk sound for moving up and down is twice as fast as walking from left to right.
- Like mentioned above, some ojects don't respond to actions. This especially would be nice when examining items in the inventory.

Apart from that, the graphics look very nice and the plot is interesting. I will play on when I have the time this evening and give you more feedback. All in all, nice work for a first project, but consider to have beta testers for your next game. It's always a surprise when a new game comes unexpected out of the nothing, but it's even nicer when it's bug-free. ;-)

Thanks for giving such a detailed response, Originally it was called Diety but when I told people their first reaction was "You spelt Deity wrong." So I changed it all to Deity, but I must've missed the title screen out  ;D

As for the walk speed and sound i'll play about with them and see what sounds best and i'll get working on the next version right away.

Seems to be heavily 5DAS inspired, yes...
Especially the player character and the house's layout in some areas, the ambient sounds randomly playing.
Still playing it though, pretty neat so far. I'll edit this when I'm done.

Right now I'm really stuck,
Spoiler
I got the symbol and put it in the gold thingie, now I can't find the other symbol...or whatever I'm supposed to do next...I'll keep trying in the meantime.

Try the second floor, it's somewhere in a frame.  ;)

Second floor? Oh boy, I must have to do something else first... I don't know about the second floor or how to get there. Basically, I've just escaped from the freezer and put the first symbol in the gold frame.

To get back in the house you need something to break the door open, try the shed ;)

Done that. I'll pm you from now on, I shouldn't really be asking for hints in your game thread :P

EDIT Okay. Done. Not sure if these things were brought up but here's some notes I took:

Spoiler

Sometimes doors both open and shut before you go through them.

Bottom Drawers were called "Bottom Draws"

You use the 'walk' icon to go down the manhole and get on top of the boxes...but the 'use' icon to go up and down the stairs? This confused me and took me forever to figure out, as I assumed it would be the other way around. Also, it looks very silly to have him walking up and down the ladder, perhaps he should just transfer between the rooms without needing to go up and down it? (ie. make it so he walks to the ladder when he uses it, then the room changes.)

Having the player constantly walk to an object when using/looking at it only to do nothing and have no comment on it was very annoying.

After you place the symbol from the cupboard into the golden circle, it's possible to go back and get another one.

Sometimes you can phase through doors, the character can click 'use' on a door and simply be in the next room without walking to the door first.

To me, the stairs indicated that they were the way to the front door, and it was only until I tried 'using' the stairs that I realized the front door must be on the fourth wall. It would be nice if this were indicated more clearly.

The word 'I' wasn't capitalized in one spot (can't remember where) and you combined the words 'sit' and 'down' when he tries to take extra books in the library.

When the man first chases you, you can run into the art room, wait for him to come in, then run by him again. If you do this, there's a glitch where the character shouts 'no stay back' etc. again, and the guy chasing him respawns down at the other end of the hall.

Don't know if you meant to leave this in, but if you press ESC at any point, you can bring up the default AGS game menu, where you can significantly mess with the game's speed.

Now, these are all simply things I noticed and suggestions and it is by no means a bad game, I just think if these things were looked into it could be even better.

Version 1.3 is now out! fixing all the bugs said and a few other nice features download it here.
I've also added a change log to the game page so you can see whats new.

Once again thanks guys for giving me positive and constructive feedback rather than "It's shit lol".

CShelton

It's a pretty good start, I'm amazed at how quickly people can iterate on AGS games.

I'd rework the "I'd rather open it than look at it" type comments to be something informative and descriptive. For instance, when looking at the cabinet you could say "It's a large mahogany cabinet, the door is slightly ajar". That tells the player that it can and probably should be opened.

The same with the paper on the table, I looked at it and it said something like "It obvious what it is" and I was like, uh. I don't know what it is by looking at the graphic. Easily fixed and more immersive if you put "It's paper, with some writing. I should have a closer look."

Remove any and all generic responses if you can. With a small game like this, it should be easy to control every object interaction.

Also, please invent a clever way to keep me from going upstairs. That's a perfect puzzle situation, such as a fallen chandelier, a nasty guard dog, or a mysterious slippery puddle covering the upper part.

If the player can't go upstairs until later, make it clear that their is an obstacle that they must overcome. Having the character express that he'd rather explore the downstairs first is pretty lame.

It's a neat little game, I've yet to explore the whole place, but I'll keep going. It looks nice, and It's keeping me entertained.

Captain Ricco

Started playin, got killed real soon too :P

But it was fun
There are some rooms that are designed exactly like in 5DAS, like the dining table room with the picture that leads to the kitchen. And the fact that the main character is a "professional thief". He didnt quite stroke me as a professional thief though, he looks more like a regular thief, breaks in abandoned houses and picks stuff, not a real cat burglar...

Ill keep on playin tryin to figure out how to escape the zombie thing, and ll come back later for some more thoughtful comments

However, now i am really stuck :

Spoiler

Try interacting with the book from the libary when its in your inventory  ;D, as for the bloodstains, check your inventory for something more...absorbent than a quill.
