Mouth for war

I was playing with my thoughts a little. With all the firepower we have in the world we could easily blow this place up. Do you think the world of Fallout 3 (or any fallout for that matter...never played 1 and 2) is THAT far from an alternative future? Ok maybe not Super mutants and giant radscorpions would appear but then again...who knows what would happen with all that radiation :D What would you do if you woke up and the world looked like that? After the catastrophe in Haiti many gangs started to mess around there I've heard so there would probably become "raiders" and such as well. I'd find some good firearms to protect myself with and then drink an insanely amount of alcohol I guess ;D

I have enough faith in humanity to believe that there will never be a leader insane to such an extent so as to use nuclear weapons, but sane enough to foster an environment where nuclear weapons could be built/obtained.

..I hope ;D

Yes that would ofcourse be the best thing but if you try and imagine a world like that. How would you live your life...I know...I know...we would have to manage our lives without AGS and that's worse than a ugly supermutant ;D

I'm always conscious about the apocalypse. So I have a plan to survive in the post-apolcalyptic world.
(This is assuming I survive the bombs themselves, the radiation afterwards, or if I'm lucky enough to be naturally immune to a virus).

Of course guns are a necessity when everybody else is dead. If you stumbled upon one of the only 10,000 survivors out of 7,000,000,000, who would cry with happiness and thank God they've got company? Nobody. You'd blow off their head before they take your bottled water.

So I'd create a huge stock-pile underground of ammunition, water, rice, and SPAM. Then I'd live out the rest of my days in a nice country cottage, sending out SOS calls on my two way, and reading Shakespeare in the evening. Maybe get a few green radioactive sheep, a two-headed cow perhaps. Then if I find a chick we could repopulate the Earth with AtelierGames inbreeds. And I would be King.

If such a situation were to arise it would be due to a nutcase.

Sensible western, capitalist nations simply couldnt handle the political, economic or military 'fallout', if youll pardon the expression, of using large scale nuclear weapons.

However ideologically or religiously driven leaders could feasibly be responsible for, as the president of Iran put it, "wiping them off the map".

Andail

er...do you guys live in some alternative reality where a western, capitalist nation hasn't already used nuclear weapons?
Whereas nations like Iran have done nothing of the sort?
...anyone?

Calin Leafshade

Well ofcourse they DID use nuclear weapons but the landscape is *very* different now regarding the use of nuclear weapons/power

Stupot

Most of these post-apocalyptic movies and books are born out of the fears that such a reality is possible.  Most science-fiction is based on some kind of theoretical possibility, or just plain paranoia.

I think a nuclear apocalypse is far, far less likely than some kind of deadly virus wiping us all out.  Swine flu turned out to be an exercise in mass-hysteria, but it did illustrate just how quickly a virus can spread.  All you need is something a bit stronger and faster, and you've got yourself a very serious lack of people to talk to.

Atelier's vision is appealing... The solitude would be bliss... I hate people.

Planet of the Apes and HHGTG, really show one thing. Human nature can't change. Really. We'd rather doom ourselves for any reason. Seek Franz Ferdinand (not the band!)
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

I am probably alone on this one, but when playing Fallout 3, I always say to myself that I wish I could live in this world.

I mean, I wouldn't have to work, and there is a crapload of booze and cigarettes out there in the wasteland.

That would keep me happy, until I died from massive radiation exposure.

No wonder why I have been playing since the game came out in '08.

My guess is that the end will come from biological warfare and not so much nuclear.

Also, on a side note - While I enjoyed Fallout 3 it can in no way hold up to the first two. Until they add in the little stuff that made those first games great it will never overcome them.

Mouth for war

I've also thought about living in that world...no taxes...no work...no bills.  That'd be great...just roam around raising hell wherever I went ;D

Demilitarize USA. No other country/nation has produced a leader retarded enough to use nukes.

Then again, as Hitler said, war is normal state of a Man. There's always some kind of war going on somewhere, every single day.
So dystopia would be plausible, just not very likely. Nobody knows how WWII got out and beyond control so quickly... it doesn't take that much spark to create chaos.

I see end of humankind clearly via biological threat.
You can hide from bombs and radiation and dodge bullets, but not viruses and parasites...

I already live in  a wasteland it is called Zimbabwe ;D. Got no roads building are falling apart. Everybody has left the country.

(Not really that bad)

Fallout 3 was really cool. it is in my top 10 Best games. 1st is GTAIV. ;D
I even got all the expansions. ;)

I doubt any nuclear war could be predicted. but my bet will be either Russia or USA. No offense just Russia are clever enough people to do something like that. Only need one crazy leader to do a nuclear war  :P

I'm not going to go into the silly argument about, "The US is only nation to ever use nuclear weapons".

As for the modern-day threat of nuclear devastation I often use this quote:

"I'm not afraid of the man who wants ten nuclear weapons, Colonel. I'm terrified of the man who only wants one."
- Julia Kelly (Nicole Kidman) from The Peacemaker (1997)

Kim Jong Ill might be a bat-shit insane lunatic, but his arsenal of nukes doesn't concern me.  It's more a defensive weapon than offensive in my opinion.  I think most nations, now, that want nukes only want them so they can do other shit and hide behind their nuclear weapons.  Or as a deterrent for any invasion-minded neighboring countries.  I'm far more concerned about the religious nut-bag that just wants one small "dirty" bomb and access to a large city somewhere.

As for this:

You're not alone, seconded!  There's something about it that, for whatever strange reason, is appealing to me too!  I also want to live on Serenity will Mal and the gang.  Though I'd have to kill Simon so Kaylee would be mine.  Maybe I'll use a nuke?  Obviously it's in my nature :P

Living in the capital wasteland does seem appealing while playing.  But if you really think about it, it wouldn't be all that grand.  Barely any food, always hungry and thirsty, people are always trying to kill you.  It definitely makes a better game or movie than it would a reality.

Now.. a reality I've always dreamed of living would be a Left 4 Dead scenario.  If the outbreak was fast, canned goods and such would still be in the stores.  People wouldn't have had lots of time to stock pile and store all food and gas.

This scenario would suck worse for me, since I'm in "no gun" Canada.  Those survivors in USA though would have arsenal up their arse.  I couldn't just hit up a Walmart and take my share of handguns and rifles.  There aren't many places here that sell rifles, and good luck finding hand guns.  Although my father does have a pump shotty. ;D

I just saw the movie The Road, and it's pretty much exactly like the wasteland, minus mutants and raiders.  But people eat people, and there is no food at all - only scraps.  Water also looks tainted and the trees are all dead.

The movie didn't really offer much, but it definitely gets your mind thinking in survival mode.  What you'd be doing if that scenario came to life.
