Pond? Horse? At least you got Bishop right. And castle, I suppose, though I prefer Rook.
Downloading anyway, at the cost of -10 SAN.

you know.. this is not *that* bad.

It's certainly  poorly executed but i do see good ideas here. It's ambitious and almost cinematic in places (the intro for instance, especially the little water part)

The art shows promise and some degree of foresight. if it were tidied up a little then it could be considered pretty much par for the course in young amateur games. (although I have no idea how much is traced or stolen)

Of course I haven't followed the FF franchise since VIII so all those good ideas could be entirely ripped off.

but if those good ideas are not stolen and the good art is not traced then I say: Well done, you are definitely improving.

Only if...

"To obtain a rating for a game, a publisher sends the ESRB videotaped footage of the most graphic and extreme content found in the game. The publisher also fills out a questionnaire describing the game's content and pays a fee based on the game's development cost:

* $800 fee for development costs under USD $250k

* $4,000 fee for development costs over $250k"

800 dollards!

But some improvements have been made.

I didn't get to see many of them, though, because Christen managed to get stuck behind the gui, moments after he stepped out of the house. And the sound didn't load properly, resulting in some warning errors. Clicking the "restart" icon crashed the game.

And the intro can't be skipped.

On the plus side, the amount of spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors is simply heroic! :D

EDIT: I agree that the intro is rather nice.

sorry,IN that room there is no sound.i should have said this before but you music "touch" the place were the end of the road to leave meaning the very bottom of the road to move on.there is no spots for when you step on them you change rooms but i can put that back

on the world map just walk under a house to enter them

I really liked it, haven't played terribly much, but some things you should CHANGE.

a) Proofread the text
b) Add automatic outline to the speech font
c) The backgrounds are nicely done, but could be improved with less effects, trust me I've been there.
d) A smooth scrolling module (Ali's) would really fix that jerkiness and make it miracle!
e)Sierra cursors, either make em obvious or ditch them honestly. I can't tell which is which, and I just go like "I need the hand/interact one for this hospot so I'll swap and click till it works."

I'm fairly excited from what I've seen. My suggestions apart from c, should take less than an hour to implement. ;)

EDIT: And also got these whilst playing
Code: ags

(in room 12): Wait() was used in Player Enters Screen - use Enters Screen After Fadein instead
(in room 14): Sound sample load failure: cannot load sound 8
(in room 14): Sound sample load failure: cannot load sound 8
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

I assume I played through it. Did use Ctrl-S though, hehe.

I really still don't get why you keep wasting time on all that wannabe shit like ESRB ratings, online plugins, special download tickets and stuff when the game(play) itself is still lacking so much.

You keep improving though, I have to give you that.

Spoiler
-The cursor icons are a joke. It takes only two minutes to get the hang of them, but until then, they are illogical and frustrating

-There are only few hotspots (which isn't a bad thing, especially for this kind of game), but why do we barely get any reaction? Not even a "You see nothing interesting" or the like. It seems like you implemented only the specific reactions necessary to get forward and nothing else.

-Only one of the mogs(?) is clickable. Why?

-In the volcano cave I came across two chests that didn't even react to interacting with them (the working chests were nicely done, btw).

-It seems you took out the possibility to step on an exit region to change rooms? Why the hell would you do that? It looks ridiculous if I'm able to walk beyond the exit hotspot's go-to coordinates and my character actually walks back inside before the room transition.

-If the chat GUI is turned on, at least one room exit is unclickable (outside the pub).

-In the intro it says "SQUARE ENIX". Where they involved in the development? (Nevermind, just kidding.)

Read some articles about game design. Read Vince Twelve's piece.

Like others and I have mentioned, you're definitely improving. What's still missing or badly done can easily be fixed without much effort, seriously.

Make a working interface, add hotspot reactions, and most importantly, get someone to proofread your lines.

Icey

Well,I am going back & fixing it with the help of Calin. The game was really made as a test to see what I need to Fix,Add, or remove and that is a lot of feedback so once Calin sends back the game I will fix every thing maybe even extend it some ;)

R4L

Sounds dandy, but I agree with Khris. No more of this stupid ESRB stuff, and stop including SQUARE ENIX in your game. Someone said earlier that you'll end up with a cease and desist letter eventually from them.

Also, since Calin is helping you, maybe you can have original backgrounds and characters? I saw the name Cid in your game and I sort of know Final Fantasy games, but I think it's better to just ditch all the relation and just come up with something original.

ddq

Yeah, actually much better than your previous efforts. But the changes people have suggested are definitely worthwhile. Some recommendations of my own...
1- Change Cid to Sydney, you can still remember his roots, but others won't instinctively think of FF.
2 - Change the cursors to anything other than chess pieces
3 - Drop the material that will get you in trouble and charge you money (ESRB and Squeenix)
4 - More interactions, including ones that aren't directly related to the story to make the world more full
5 - Add some Gnomes. Everything's better with Gnomes

It isn't a bad idea to release the game after the feedback of your beta testers, like serious game developers do.

This is my last game with square enix, that is why my next thing is a anime for pub master.3 because It wil take place in japan the true home land to my game, but is a fictional place in japan.as for the esrb that was really just an example of 1 out of 5 examples of the final menu for pub master quest 1 remake.

As for cid he will only remain in pmq.2 and MAYBE pmq.1 but when 3 4 is made he will not be in there because there not in senpah anymore, having this mean nomore square enix :( but a new chance with new characters[I can now bring my old people back because the change in the name made me let them fade away into memory but I can only remember some of them :[ but all is not lost :]

Once again I don't think you're listening to anyone. Using other material from games without permission can get you in trouble. That's why ddq suggested you change Cid's name all together and why I and many others suggested that you use original works.

No I get, what i mean is since i worked on this game and I don't wont to change the story anymore but I only want to add to it.after part and part there will be no more moogle's,cid's, or chocobo's.And I did ask square enix but I am waiting for there reply.but until then there will be no more square enix games from me except for pmq.2 & Maybe pmq.1
