Aspect Ratio

First I tried searching the forums with little to no success, then I tried the Knowledge Base and its broken link again with no success.

It's a straight question, but I think it's a very important one: there's a wide range of monitors these days and each with a different screen ratio; I downloaded a few games created with AGS and (having a wide screen monitor to test these in) as I suspected, these games are stretched on fullscreen display.

Is there some way to solve this problem? If so, please explain it to me.

Thank you!

I'm having a wide-screen too, so I prefer to set the settings to 3x or 4x neighbor filter and play on windowed mode instead of fullscreen.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Yeah playing windowed is probably your best bet, other options are getting a widescreen monitor with Aspect control, though with that you need to (at least in my experience with my monitor)  expand the game up to 800x600 through the scalers.  Some might have lower res at which  the aspect can be controlled (Pillar box style mind you.)

Is there any chance of solving the problem within the engine itself, forcing the game to render at the correct aspect ratio? Maybe this could be done by introducing an 'aspect ratio' box in the configuration dialog.

One of the 3.2 releases introduced a "Side borders on widescreen monitors" option in winsetup.

Unfortunately you can't run pre 3.2 games with the 3.2 engine, so unless you have access to the source or the game's creator is willing to recompile the game with 3.2, there's nothing you can do.
