There are also some lunatics out there who are going to be disappointed much sooner that the world didn't end: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40885541/ns/us_news-life/

Haha wow, people still listen to Harold Camping despite the fact that he was wrong when he predicted the world would probably end in September 1994.

Wait a second, why do I find that funny? That's disgustingly pathetic.

Gullible freaks  :(

I want to go down in history as The Man who sold the End of the World.
I, object.

You can never trap lunatics, because they have shields to protect their own delusions. In 2013, when they're all still alive, they will answer you this :
Spoiler

We meant the end of the world AS WE KNOW IT, which is already happening, can't you see a change in consciousness?

Do you know what would really bug me?

It would be if the oil crisis or whatever other big well-known issue (like the North-Corean nuclear threats, or a worldwide recession) reached a critical level in 2012, briging some BIG disaster -- causing the 2012-freaks to claim "HA! WE TOLD YOU SO!".

Witnessing the end of the world is one thing, but witnessing it being surrounded by idiots would definitely be too much for me.

Khris

I don't think that's completely true; most of these doomsday idiots make pretty specific claims. Take the rapture; they can't tell you that's already happening.
The amazing thing though is that no matter how often they are wrong, they somehow manage to quietly drop the old prediction and move to the next future date, and they still get earnest media coverage and followers.

This is the thing that has always bugged me.  I can remember, in my life-time, several "end of days" dates that came and went.  It seems as if, studying history, that every generation seems to be certain sure the "end is coming!!"

And yet here we sit after all the surety.

I think when computer power becomes strong enough and we can read human DNA like computer code we'll find that there's a global variable; human.endofworldparanoia==1.

Maybe then we can switch it off and stop this moronic desire to witness the end of the world.

But ... but ... the Mayans said 2012!!!  Yes they did.  They also believed people before them were made of leaves.

This is just a topic out of random things that came to mind. Fix the goddamn calendar please!

My last calendar ended at December 31st, 2010, and nothing happened. So much for calendars predicting the end of the world by ending!

+1.
Actually we already have a vague understanding of that :

"self-consciousness" (biologic reality born of evolution)
=> "I'm aware that 'me' is going to end"
+ "I can tell the difference between 'me' and 'the universe around'"
=> "what happens when 'me' ends but 'the universe' continues?"
                                                       (which gives you religion)
"what happens when 'me' is still alive but 'the universe' stops?"
(which gives you the armageddon-like beliefs)

If more people could get over this little misunderstanding we'd be living in a better and happier world.

I don't believe the world will end in 2012. It sounds like a load of rubbish.

I don't believe it too!

But just in case I'm going to construct a bunker under my house.

So if the world collapses, what will the religions make out of it?

The only thing I'm afraid of is religious fundamentalists getting their hands on nuclear material and actually using it. That's an apocalyptic scenario that's actually realistic and possible, maybe even probable, with the state of things as they currently are.

I was actually wondering about that myself. I would like to see it fixed too :(

I must say...that from the sounds of it, you are just about the only one who cares about the calendar (oh and Domithan too)...because your thread got hijacked into an "oh noes, what if the world ends in 2012?! isn't that ridiculous?!?!" thread.

Dude honestly, I didn't know we even had a calendar....

Actually I hijacked that thread myself from the first post. The first post was quite different. It even had a youtube link pointing out to a Jesus and Mary Chain song (Just like Honey). Also that image with my messages, a link to the end of the world according to Mayans (2012) and a suggestion for everyone to discuss about their new year's resolution.
