Explanation of the Norwegians' bravery!

Let me explain: I've just come back from a visit to my sister who lives in Norway, and of course we've travelled a bit- like proper tourists, And at one Fjord, we stopped for lunch at a kro (Norwegian for road-side restaurant) where they served kummle, a local dish that looks like this:

The flavour wasn't awful (don't let the looks deceive you!), I bravely finished the dish, but I now understand why the Vikings set out on rickety boats for other worlds, and the fabled (though back then not yet so much) Haut Cuisine!

Oh well, at least I'm immune to the cold now! Didn't really need it: in Hol, we had temperatures of about 15°C, which were very nice (it felt much warmer than it actually was).

Matti

I would've never touched that! Half of it looks uneatable anyway..

I guess I'm not a viking.

Darth Mandarb

It doesn't look too appealing to me (resembles road-kill a bit) but I would have tried it as I tend to be 'food adventurous' when I'm in a new place!  I've eaten worse that's for sure.

The only part of that the really bothers me is the bone in the center (at least I think it's a bone) ... I have a weird thing about eating meat from a bone.  I can do it, but I have to focus.  Granted I'd also have to ignore the obvious penis reference sticking out the top :)

Looks sort of disgusting....but it seems you survived it. ;)

They say don't judge the book by it's cover but I would immediately skip this book after even giving it a glance...

I say print it out, put it in a frame and title it "Roadkill with penis and vomit #1". It'll sell for a fortune at the Saatchi Gallery!  ;D
That being said, I've eaten weirder looking stuff in the UK.

Stupot

It looks like something I'd think twice about feeding my dog  :-\

Good grief, I can't make out where this thing begins and where it ends. A geometrical nightmare!

ThreeOhFour

I am of the opinion that the worse a meal looks, the better it tastes.

Therefore, I'd totally eat this! (but I'm also the least picky eater ever :P)

cat

Gosh, this totally confirms my resolution not to eat meat anymore...

Delicious!
Wrongthinker and anticitizen one. Utterly untrustworthy. Pending removal to memory hole.

Well this certainly is a lot of reaction from people who don't even know what the dish is made out off. Perhaps it oes have a bit of a homemade look, but that doesn't mean anything.

I'd certainly try it.  :)

Are you thinking of mr. Bourdain? Now that's a food lover.

p.s. all the people that see a sausage and the first thing they think is "that looks like a penis"...you have some issues  ::)
I don't want the world, I just want your half

Isn't the penis a mangy kind of sausage anyway? It doesn't resemble much of anything else.

I've heard you can get a cream for that....

I don't think it looks that bad, I have eaten stuff that looked way better and surely tasted much worse than that.

I can't really say that looks that horrible...
Seems to be sausage, lamb and some extras including the so called "Kumle" or "Raspeball".

And I am suprised that this dish would be used to explain "Norwegians' bravery" (Are(was) we really that brave?).
Smalahove would be a better dish:

Thanks, there are bits of vomit in my mouth, and I was just about to eat dinner. :(

I can't see anything wrong with that dish, or the one in wiki! In fact I think they would taste great! Then again I'm Greek and our Easter habits include eating this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kokoretsi, and of course goat head, etc... :P

So... yeah, bring it on baby! ;D
