The Camp

The Camp is set on WW2 environment, the year is 1944 and the Nazi were suffering heavy defeats on the war front.
The main character is a German soldier, young and with a mind of his own. He's above all, human.
On a remote concentration camp, the orders were to "clean up" the site and leave no evidences of irregular acts. Problems arrived when the Nazi soldiers were told to finish up and leave in a week's time. There were still prisoners on the camp and a decision was made by high Nazi ranks...

The game will feature 800x600 backgrounds, animations and a deep story, and I intend to deliver it with the best of my abilities.
All the events and names will be based on historical facts, although it will be, of course, a work of fiction.
I intend to show violence not as a showcase but as a way to remember people that the nature of men can and will be evil if the path presented to them by life is of a evil nature.
In the end, I'll try not to judge but to show how many persons a man can be during his life.

Stay tuned...

VERY interesting (and risky!) topic!  I have always been fascinated with the "how" a human could do the things (even being ordered) that the Nazis did.  Should make an interesting dynamic in a game.

I really look forward to seeing how you handle it.

Now I have to play the moderator role (as this subject is bound to stir up some controversy):

Let's not let this get off track.  If you have an objection to the content and wish to discuss it please do so in a PM to the author and leave this thread to "production" matters!

Oh noes, Tin-tin!

Igor Hardy

Cool graphics! Tintin the Nazi is also the first thing that came into my mind!

Darth Rest assure that I will not turn this production into some political debate, like you said, if somebody wants to talk about it just PM me and I'll be happy to answer every message.

Chicky & Ascovel my drawing style being compared with Hergé is a honour to me, thank you very much! But the intention wasn't to show a Nazi Tintin... ;)

Mouth for war

Sounds really interesting man :) And my first thought was "Hey when did tintin become a nazi?" :D
mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in, next to soccer

miguel

Thanks, I hope I can make it interesting without being judgemental.
Tintin, a nazi? Who would think of that!

Nice. Good idea. I only wish characters were more realistic, but it might work;) Good luck!

Thanks Grim,
I understand your concern, I'll need to be subtle on this one and still make it entertaining. It's hard to keep everything together as I go more and more into the game.

WHAM

The main character looks like he's about to fall on his face... That's a little odd, I guess.
Anyways: Interesting theme and I hope you'll allow for multiple solutions so that the player can have some moral dilemma as well. "Do I help this prisoner escape and risk my life or do I take the easy way, at the cost of my own humanity" -might make for a pretty engaging game if the player is given choise.
Wrongthinker and anticitizen one. Utterly untrustworthy. Pending removal to memory hole.

Let's say that the main character is...tired? :=  I actually did some army time and you kind of rest if you shift your body like that, only slightly, I admit that it looks a bit unnatural.

Anyway, thanks for your comments. As for moral dilemma, I did some search on the subject, and I came up with a solution that may vary from what you're saying. Meaning that I'll "force" players to do some nasty stuff. I find the subject very serious and hard to deal, but when you belong to a army you have to do what you were told. You've been trained for it, brain-washed for it and you end up doing things as a immediate response to your superior orders. A notion builds up in your head that not obeying orders is the worst option you can have.
Saying this, I understand what you mean, although the choices given to the player are part of the narrative making it pretty linear, I hope that the story can overcome this linearity. If I have the talent to do it, that's a different story but it's the way I imagined this game.

It's probably the hair that gives him that TinTin look, with the curl in front. Of course TinTin didn't have the 5 o'clock shadow...

As for the moral dilemma and freedom of choice it may be likely that if the character didn't follow orders tat he would end up before a firing squad, which would probably bring a quick end to the game.

I think so as well, and the fact that TinTin is so popular this days with the movie and all. And one day I'll avoid photoshop lightning once and for all! 8)

Moral dilemma: yup, that's what I think. But WHAM has a point, too.
