My thought process, in case this helps anyone:

1. This looks like an early silent film, but I don't think it is. We have few panoramic options to choose from, even fewer that still exist in a wide format, and I don't think this is from either Old Ironsides or Abel Gance's Napoleon.
2. So this might be from a film designed to look like a silent film, but filmed post-whenever the wider aspect ratios came along (early 50s, I think). Or, it might be a flashback.
3. Or, this might be a Karel Zeman film. It has that look to it too, but I can't find one that matches up with the subject matter.

No matter the case, I want to see whatever this is. That looks a bit like Stephen Lang in the center.

Armageddon

Eric

My guess is Joe Versus The Volcano.

Oh that's a good movie there.

It was neither of these movies. Joe vs the Volcano had some b&w scene?

I'm not sure. I just remembered it had a very bleak and stylized sequence at the factory at the beginning of the film. This sequence, in fact, if I'd bothered to check before guessing.

Nope. I guess I'll be posting another screencap soon...

Looks like Dead Man to me. Even the terrible transfer matches what I remember from my DVD.

I don't think it was anamorphic though, so I might be wrong.

Babar

Not Dead Man either. Here is another screencap:

I've probably made it immensely easier now...

The Elephant Man, maybe?

Not really, it was still a stab in the dark, despite the fact that I've seen this film several times. :)

Now, here's a new one, shouldn't be hard:

Joe versus the giant boxer standing right outside his window?

Eric

I can't believe I guessed Joe V. The Volcano for a film that was actually Elephant Man.

Bruce Lee? Well, one of his movies. Dunno which one. But haircut looks familiar :)
Alright, let's guess.
Way of the Dragon.

Heh...I was a bit perturbed by your very detailed initial analysis ;D

As for the current one...it does kinda look like one of the many "young-kid learns karate" life-lesson movies of the 80s, but Ilych could be doing that to trick us. No Retreat No Surrender?
