I am kinda new to this and I couldn't find the beginners FAQ. I am wondering where you can find resources for making a game such as backgrounds, items, characters, etc. I know you can draw your own backgrounds but I am terrible at drawing and would much rather download them. Hopefully this isn't in the wrong thread, but if it is feel free to close it and give me a link to where I need to be. Thanks in advanced.

Andail

If you browse around a bit, you'll find that the critics' lounge has a sticky thread dedicated to this. Then there is also RON, which has packages of premade assets, as well as other similar "swarm"-projects.
Good luck!

No way! Did you notice "READ FIRST *BEFORE* POSTING!!" topic? :)

Also, if you are making the very first game, there's nothing bad in drawing your own graphics regardless of how bad they may seem. That's fun!

As a matter of fact I read the *Do not read before posting* thread and it said nothing about where I could find the beginners FAQ and from what I seen it didn't say where I could find resources either.

Andail, Thank you for actually being helpful.

Sorry if this info was misleading, but I thought links to AGS tutorials, Wiki and some resources could be useful.

BTW: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/wiki/?title=Category:AGS_Beginners%27_FAQ
Were you searching for that or for something else?

Khris

Regardless of what it says in the rules thread, it says "For help with starting off scripting your AGS game" below the link to the beginner's forum.
Just saying.
Also, while it may be tempting, don't get cocky right off the bat. It's lose-lose.

And regardless of what you say i specifically posted that im NEW so i dont know whats what around here and sorry for not seeing a "post your simple questions here" thread. maybe you should start one. Last i checked this is a forum not a school where people like you pick on the new guy. As far as im concerned. If your what im losing then by all means.

Thank you again Crimson Wizard for your help

Boy, you ARE new here. You should go to the beginner's technical question forum and see who devotes a lot of time answering most of the questions there for newbies like yourself. Then you should maybe rethink your response to what was a well-meaning post from Khris. That foot you're using is not the right one to get off on.

Khris

Being new isn't an excuse for being too lazy or feeling too entitled to actually read the sticky threads.
It's funny that you called the "read me first" sticky "do not read before posting" because that's obviously exactly what you did. The BFAQ is in fact linked in there, right under where it says "RESOURCES" in big fat letters.
It's also linked in the sticky directly above, which has "BFAQ" in its title.
And there's another link in the AGS section of the main page, in the box titled "Help and Support".

And while this isn't a school, there are still rules. And just like in school, they aren't just there to piss off jackasses, they are there for a good reason.
I'll say it again, drop the attitude now, or you will regret it (not a threat, just a fact).

As a matter of fact I did read it, doesn't mean I went through the whole thing .Heaven forbid you have the most uptight forum in existence. I think its funny you think you know what someone did based off your own opinion when as a matter of fact unless I told you I didn't read it you can only assume I didn't you can't factually say one way or another. You can say it as many times as you like but until you get off your high horse I'm not dropping my attitude. Just because you say jump doesn't mean I'm going to. What am I gonna regret, being thrown out of the forum. Fat chance ill regret that. Have a nice day. Bye

Well, the whole flame here, as I see this, started over your previous statement that was:

Nobody was picking on you, it was just pretty strange thing to hear, because the link Beginner's FAQ you were asking is right there in that topic written with large bold font. That was the reason people could think you are either not telling truth and/or being plain rude.

Now, that is a prejudice... it's simply not true. I've been here for 4 years and so far people were pretty friendly to newcomers, at least while newcomers were friendly to "older" members.

Ryan Timothy B

Let's not put anymore gas on this flame. I didn't think he was being cocky or rude, he just didn't know where to start. It happens.

We've got regular forumers who break the "rules" in a far greater manner than this. Hell, for a quick example, we've got an Icey thread that's filled with complete bullocks and nothing but RPG and Icey-Self-Help bull stuck in the Adventure related section for who knows how long.

Anyway, welcome to the forums.

Gilbert

Right.

People should tolerate beginners a bit, especially in this section, and beginners may also try to take others' advice humbly, before turning things into unnecessarily serious business.

Khris

Dsmccurdy92:
I'm not "picking on the new guy". You're supposed to spend some time trying to find things yourself before you dive in and open a thread. Most people manage to do that. Not you though, and you even said that the "read me" sticky didn't contain the information you wanted, although it clearly does. So you're either lazy or lying, it's as simple as that.
In addition you'd obviously rather bite your tongue off than admit that, which is what makes me so annoyed. No high horse involved here, just you putting your foot in your mouth right from the beginning and acting like it's everybody else's fault.

Iceboty & Ryan:
Subtle arrogance when missing the BFAQ was pointed out with a smiley, right here, in the second post:

Don't know about you but when I read something as condescending as that I instinctively wanna slap the person.

No, don't. I think I've warned you about similar things already.

Andail

I agree that the line about "... for actually being helpful" was a bit cheeky, as well as this subsequent teenage rebellion post:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=46523.msg625882#msg625882

...but since we don't ban - or slap - people for being drama queens, let's just forget about this and move on, shall we?

Here's a kissy kissy smiley to round off this thread: :-*
