I'm planning on getting with the 21st century, and getting myself an actual website rather than a blogspot thing. After all, how else can I expect to look professional?

Anyhow, I've been looking through a lot of reviews online, but it seems that so many of them are simply plants/advertising by companies for their own services, or disinformation and slander by their rivals. So, who more trustworthy than the fine folks here on AGS to ask? So, my question - if you've got your own website, who do you get to host it? Are they any good?

I use iPower.

They have the vDeck control panel which is nice, and they've got all the custom stuff for setting up plug and play wordpress/forum installs, online shops, etc. It's very turnkey. They even have a good site builder if you don't want to use wordpress and they offer very cheap backup of your entire site, databases, etc.

They have the latest versions of php and sql as well. You get "unlimited" bandwidth and file transfer (just don't hit the front page of digg or get more than 5K hits a day or you'll have to go with a bigger hosting package they offer, but that's the case with most hosts) for about $10 a month USD and an additional $15 or so to register the domain name, but they usually throw that in for free.

I've been with them almost six years and I've had 99% uptime throughout. Their phone support is garbage, but their online chat support is fantastic and they've resolved most major issues within 24 hours, including the stupid ones that were caused by my bad programming.

I use dreamhost.

I managed to get a discount at one point where I paid for 1 month and got it free for the rest of the year.

I've just stuck with them since, because they are the first hosts I've never had a problem with
<Babar> do me, do me, do me! :D
<ProgZMax> I got an idea - I reached in my pocket and pulled out my Galen. <timofonic2> Maybe I'm a bit gay, enough for do multitask and being romantical

I heard that bihira should be reliable for the low costfactor, but never tried them myself (yet). But I had email contact with them and they were willing to offer special conditions, just contact them and negotiate. And keep away from godaddy! Then you better use the bigger hosts like 1&1 or strato.
for domains namecheap is often mentioned positively.

Er, technocrat.agser.me? Or ask Hajo? That's how the rest of us AGSers have an online presence :)

My host - AGS (Hajo), my domains - 123-reg.co.uk

I also use Dreamhost for most of my projects, and also mostly because I got a pretty good deal years ago. I've not been 100% satisfied with them, but haven't been dissatisfied enough to go through the trouble of moving all of my sites (and their accompanying databases) to another host.

Most of the companies promise around 99.9% uptime, but fall a little less than that. Dreamhost seems to have one-day outages twice a year for me. Unfortunately, these seem to happen on the worst possible days for me. Their customer service is always quick to respond, though, and they keep me happy afterward.

If you are looking to register and use your own domain I personally recommend http://name.com !
You can also use your own domains with the agser.me service (It will just require some extra work).

I use hostgator.com - nice cpanel, unlimited FTP address, bandwidth, space and emails, Database, etc... Domain name included and it costs $4 a month for the minimum package.

I've got a reseller account at hostgator. Had it since 2005, and I couldn't be happier.

Additionally, if you get a domain, I can give you quite a bit of space and bandwidth for free. They've been upgrading my package (without upping the price) for years and I've got oodles of space/bw :)
Still here.
