So I just got my new Kindle Fire today and I was wondering (as I'm trying to figure this dang thing out) if it's at all possible to play and AGS game on it? And if not, could something like that be made possible by one of you genius game creators? :)

The AGS, um..."moblie versions" only work on Android, IOS and PSP. If you had something like an android tablet then it work. but it's not gonna work on a kindle.

word! I just checked and it didn't come up as one. (should of checked the wiki X3 )

Anyhow, if that's the case I might just grab one just to play AGS games on it.

But was it always an android?

CosmoQueen

Thank you JJS! So I just install it then dl a game and play it? Sounds simple enough :)

Basically yes. You can view a readme here: https://github.com/adventuregamestudio/ags/blob/97d128d7851293e37d6f9d2e0a307418c6bfe827/Android/README.md

You also have to enable the installation of non-market apps (apps from unknown sources) in the system settings.

I thought this was going to be about text (choose your own) adventures on regular Kindle...which I think would be awesome.

EDIT: a version of ScummVM works on Android phones, I've played Flight of the Amazon Queen on my mobile (with voices and everything), so I'm guessing maybe they figured it out. Right now it almost seems like it's easier to create a game in an engine that's made for Android instead.

Interesting! I'm wondering, does anyone have experience or capability to turn a game into an easy-install and play "app" or whatnot for such devices, like Android? A way to get game on there easily (for someone who isn't so tech savvy perhaps). A slightly more user friendly way of getting AGS games onto them perhaps using the usual methods for getting new (official) games onto them, or is the way suggested in the readme the only viable way? I'd be interested in getting some games working for android devices but think I'd struggle to market a routine that seems a little complicated.

Also what about when your game is keyboard controlled, the readme suggests those kind of games can't be (or just aren't right now) supported?

I still think this is needed to create standalone AGS games for Android: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?issue=319.0

So a slight change to the engine and a somewhat larger change to the editor. You still must have the Android SDK, understand how to customize the launcher name/icon/id and a paid Google Play account (25 $) if you want to upload to the store.

E: The keyboard should work but of course playing a text based game on an onscreen keyboard would be a pain. Also the keyboard does not have all the buttons of a PC keyboard, e.g. no F1-F12, Ctrl, arrow-keys...

While we are at it there is also a bug on the Kindle Fire that prevents opening of the keyboard: http://jjs.at/tracker/view.php?id=74 I have no lead on why this happens.

Sorry it took me so long. But I tried it and IT WORKS!! All I had to do was install the file, and then create a folder named "AGS" and simply unzip the game into that folder! Very cool :)
