Hooray, I've finally made something on AGS!

About four years ago I made a Spot the Difference puzzle in photoshop and was planning to make it into an AGS game (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=36677).

Well today I actually got around to making a clickable version of that same puzzle, complete with a very basic scoring system.

I'm hoping to make a bigger game with at least 10 puzzles and a better scoring system (that penalizes you for false clicks).

Any critique and ideas will be gratefully received.  Thanks :-)

YAY! I am the spottiest of them all!

Some were really hard to catch and very well implementedâ€" good work!

You are one step closer to become a man like you named it in your sig

I'd just prefer an other kind of pics (like backgrounds or sprites from a game or famous paintings) but that's a matter of taste.
If there will be several pics in the game, then maybe adding a timer that counts backwards (and the remaining time will become the points to earn) would be a nice feature?

Will your game take place in a museum?

Stupot

Well done Tabby :-)
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, stock photos of market stalls don't make for the most exciting of games. I'll have a think about this.  Might have to beg, borrow and steal (preferably not steal) artwork from other people.

I think using a timer for the scores is a good plan.  I still want to penalise the player for wrong clicks though. Maybe in the form of a 10 second penalty or something.

I hadn't really thought about a setting or theme for the overall game, but a museum isn't a bad idea.

Why not use (with permission of course) screenshots from AGS games?  They might make good spot the difference pics.

Yeah, I could do.  I might experiment with one or two bgs and see how they turn out.

I haven't tried this yet, but I do love photo hunt games.

In the photo hunt games, they have a bar with dots from red to green that slowly moves backwards, IMO I like this better than an actual clock. Points are tallied by how many dots are left in the bar.

Having a penalty for wrong clicks is an absolute must with these types of games. When someone does find a difference, having a cirle drawn around the differences on both pictures is also the way to go too.

I'm afraid my BG's are not detailed enough for your project, but I wouldn't mind letting you use anything from the Visitor games if you wished to. I do like the idea of an AGS games photo hunt.

Good luck with this.

ThreeOhFour

I'd love one of these with AGS game screenshots.

Thanks guys.  Seems a lot of people are for the idea of using AGS games.  That's fine by me.  Much nicer to work with than boring stock photos.  I'll try with two or three first and then make another little demo.

I'll put a request out for BGs in due course, but in the meantime, if anyone has a BG from their game that a) they don't mind me using and b) they feel lends itself well to this kind of puzzle, then by all means PM me and let me know.

@Nicky.  Yeah, currently I only have circles appear on one of the pictures.  In fact you can only click on one, but it won't take any effort to make both sides equally interactive. Much more preferable, I think you'll agree.

Stupot+ - do you only want the pure backgrounds?  I was thinking of an in-game screenshot, not sure if you were thinking of a background without characters in.

and also the game then has to be twice the width of a normal AGS game but I'm all for it too, gotta love these spot the difference games.

I think an in-game screen might be better. Also, there is the possibility of using the object sprites and characters as 'differences'. For lower res BGs it would be fine having both images on screen, but for higher res BGs with lots of details, I might consider cropping the image to show a particular interesting part of that room rather than the whole room.  We'll see. I'll have a little play about.
