Also an interesting comment on one game - "Honestly nothing made in the AGS engine could really hope to be sold in stores" - that was way back in 2007 though.

I've put that list in alphabetical order in the first post, so people can save a bit of time and focus on rating the games which are available.

There have been times when I have tried to download games with the intention of helping with rating (so that they wouldn't be stuck with no cups), but it's very off-putting when a whole bunch of games don't have working links.

Agreed... I was wondering if they could have a default rating of Zero until a rating is given (which would mean that the developer has fixed the issue)?  Then at least it wouldn't show under the No-One Has Rated list.

I have a bit of time to play some short games over this next week - any recommendations? (I'll check the ones already mentioned in this thread so no need to re-request).

I've played Apple Farm and recommend checking it out for a nice short game which should be easy to rate.

The best game I've played so far as part of this ratings drive is only a demo, and still very recent, but Zid and Zniw Chronicles Demo is just pure pleasure.

This attempt at a ratings drive seems to have petered out before it even got going and the list of games with fewer than five ratings is actually increasing! Thanks to those few who have so far taken the time to rate some of the listed games.

Maybe rather than having a quasi-annual reminder that it's even possibly to rate games, we need to actually try to encourage a culture of rating that is currently severely lacking in this community. I feel like this has been talked about before but here are some ideas, suggestions:

1) Instead of the "Redirecting to download" page which disappears after three seconds, open the host page on a different tab and have a page that doesn't disappear saying "You are now downloading X. Enjoy the game. When you have played the game, come back and give it some feedback." (With a link back to the games page or even its feedback page.) That way, the player can choose to close the page themselves or leave it open while they play the game, making it more likely that they'll leave a rating. This will obviously only be directly effective for shorter games, but even with longr games, at least it's helping to encourage awareness of the rating system.

2) Have an automatically generated readme text file built into all compiled games folders, perhaps with a template message including a line at the bottom, "Don't forget to rate X on the games page." The game author can choose to edit the file however they wish (or delete it entirely). People often include a readme anyway but this will make all authors concious of whether or not they want to encourage their players to rate their games.

3) Encourage the same in the forums. People (myself included) find it easier to comment on a game with the forum before thinking to go back to the games page to give it a proper rating. If authors got in the habit of including a little line in their Completed Games thread ("And as usual, don't forget to rate.") then  we can nurture a culture where asking for votes is not narcissistic, but just part of the process. And that way you're doing yourself and other devs a favour by getting players in the habit of rating games.

4) How about an 'underrated gems' category in the AGS Awards? In the nomination phase, basically all the games that have  fewer than five votes are eligible for nomination, and then people are encouraged to play some and choose one or two they like, and then these are collated into a shortlist of five or six, which can be played during the voting phase. These games are voted for using the normal player rating system, and by the time voting ends, whichever has the best score (hopefully they'll all have more than 5 votes by this point) will win the award.... or something to that effect.

Anyway those are just some thoughts. If anyone has any thoughts on those, or some ideas of their own, please join in.

I think we should make it a bit more obvious were to click to rate a game. As of now you click on the words "your votes?", it very much makes sense and has a blurb to go along with it... but I find it blends into the scenery a little. Perhaps also another link or a Blue Cup button in the "Player Rating" area.. I think most casuals are used to just clicking on a row of ghost-stars to leave their opinion.
