well, i've been wondering how to make the best most realistic 3d chars (maybe even photo-realistic ???). which tools to use, etc. i mean dead realistic (silent hill) and grim fandango backgrounds (or again silent hill).

if you're asking this question it is going to take a long.... long.... long...... time to learn

i guess the best thing to use is poser although you'll end up with the same looking character as everyone else using poser [sure you can download additional characteres but... they all still look the same]

if you know absolutely noyhing about working in 3d then you are going to have the hardest time ever on this game, learn 3d first then try applying it to a game, don't do them at the same time, especially if you want photorealistic

Yeah realistic stuff can be hard work.. what might be possible is a Grim style thing where you make stylised characters that are pretty easy to make.  Easy is relative though.. you're still going to have to learn how to use some 3d software and that will take at least a few weeks.  Animating them will require you to learn 3d animation which will take even longer.. it's not easy for a total 3d newbie.
I'm not much if a fan of 3d stuff being used extensively in 2d games.. I'd recommend you use 2d programs if you're making 2d games. It'll probably be easier.
I'm planning to make a 3d advanture one day.. but it won't be in ags.

You can use Poser and make completely different-looking characters. I hate to do this AGAIN, but take a look at my game's web site, I think I've managed to have some different-looking characters using facial morphs, different hair, clothing, color, etc.

It's better if you get the add-on Poser characters from DAZ3D, they have more of a realistic look to them, and better facial morphs and features and stuff. You can download plenty of tutorials, free add-ons, objects,  etc. from www.3dcommune.com and www.renderosity.com

Why not just use photos? People on green sceens then crop them out...
