v2.56.612 - 2.56 Final: Released August 9th, 2003
* Updated with AGS v2.56 Final changes (Chris)

AGS 2.56 Final Runtime for FreeBSD has been posted on my AGS Downloads page. At this time only statically linked binaries are provided. From now on, the dynamically linked and statically linked binary packages will be separate to shorten the download time as no user that I know of needs the dynamically linked binaries. (687k download as opposed to 1.4mb download)

I've tested the FreeBSD binaries on a FreeBSD 4.8 Release system with a cvsup'd ports. The binary requires arts, esd, libjpeg, libaudiofile, libgnugetopt, and a recent version of XFree (4.3.x).

Also, the FreeBSD version does not yet support CD Audio playback as I haven't yet ported libcda to FreeBSD. (Still researching that).

Isn't that what MacOS X is based upon? I guess we're getting one step closer to the mac version of AGS! or something :P

FreeBSD? geeze, why does unix have to come in som many flavors.. now I have to release a freebsd version? I should release my games in unix and linux package... unix h4x0rs will just have to deal with the bigger download

WOW, I always thought that FreeBSD was the same as Linux, guess not.

Anyways, good job! I dont have FreeBSD, but I do have Linux!!!!

Little by little this thing is gonna be multiplatform....

Now if we could only get a Mac and Amiga version..........

Not particularly,  AGS is definitely not endian safe, plus I lack a Mac so we're a long, long, long ways off from that :]

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you provide just the Linux binary a FreeBSD user can still run the game, I'm mainly providing FreeBSD binaries for FreeBSD users who refuse to install Linux emulation plus the native binaries are tweaked to run better on FreeBSD.

By the way, I noticed you were providing a Linux version for your latest game, I had a lot of fun playing the grannie zombie killer demo, thanks :)

Eventually, I plan on redoing my AGS website yet again, and I will begin posting "game packs", easily installable packages for users of AGS games (with the author's persmission of course) setup and ready to play for Linux/FreeBSD users. I have yet to decide how I'm going to accomplish this though, so sshhhh  8) I would prefer not to burden authors with being responsible for distributing Linux versions of their games, however they're quite welcome to do so.
