Same problem happens to me.

Unless there's some way to reconfigure DOSBox so it work with SoS.

Edit: Oh wait, checked their forums -- it seems their latest CVS can run Sakura. YAY!

I hate having to choose one, but I really can't think of any game that deserves the title of "The Best Adventure Game Ever" than Grim Fandango. I mean, the issue of "favorite" aside, GF really tied together every aspect of the adventure genre and combined them into a form that is simply more masterful than anything else I've ever played.

I had to use a different installation-type-thing to the one which I'd used before in order to get it to work, for some reason, however.

Actually, I remember what I wanted to add; Las had been wondering about the similarities between SoS and Eva; as underdogs labels SoS as being made in 1992 (Eva having come out in 1995), it seems rather odd. Well, in case he hadn't worked it out for himself yet, and in the unlikely event that anyone still cares, I can say that I'm pretty much 100% certain that underdogs merely got the year wrong; besides the fact that there are plenty of references to anime besides Eva in there (for example, the three girls who's names I forget but are always together are quite blatantly based upon the three main characters of Rayearth, and I've heard that there's references to the likes of Tenchi in there, too), I spotted something which couldn't possibly have occured by coincidence, and was clearly an Eva referency-thing.

So there you go.

I'm very glad to see my own personal favorite and the game i consider to be best is so poular ---> Grim Fandango! Its beyond my verbal capability to describe this masterpiece of combined greatness. Just take every positive advective you can find and you have a description of the game I guess

Ok, I may be exagerrating, but I think thats expected with the blind love I have for this game. Also many seem to agree so

In my opinion what makes GF so good is that aside from having every aspect of adventure gaming perfected and polished, it also combines all of these aspects in the best way, to create one complete epic adventure.

Alright enough rambling about Grim's awesomness, heh.

There is a calender in Ruri's room that has a picture of Rei Ayanami in bandages. OMG!

I figured it out -- Anno knows MrColossal and together they TIME TRAVEL!!!

Or underdogs got it wrong.

In any case, I can finally play SoS again, and that's all that matters to me.

Being the Sierra fool that I am, I'd have to say my absolute favorite is Gabriel Knight 2... great plot, great characters, great puzzles, and so incredibly profound. The other 2 GK games are right up there, though.

I have a super-soft spot for King's Quest 6, though... and KQ 7... and KQ 5... and, hell, why not every Sierra adventure. But really, KQ6 is a favorite.

I dont have money so I just play the freeware games made with AGAST, AGS, and SLUDGE.

Nothing against die hard AGS fans, but in my opinion, the best PNC adventure games ever are Out of Order and Afetrshocked.

And SLUDGE has the funniest name.

BUT WAIT!!!

I have done games on AGAST and done a demo of SLUDGE and AGS is the best adventure creator EVER!

And let's acknowledge Black Dahlia, which is only not nominated because it's been MURDERED by all its GRATUITOUS, USELESS and NUMEROUS shivers-style puzzles, not being a shivers-style game. Otherwise, it's one of the best, right up with GK.

Wow, I mean, I LOVED Grim Fandango (in fact, the box has been staring at me for days, begging me to stop making my own game and play it through again), it's by far one of the best modern games around... but my favourite adventure game of all time could never be a modern game. It has to be Monkey Island 1. It's never ever lost it's charm for me and it was such a big influence on game style and humour.

One thing that makes me a little sad is that NOONE (that I've seen) has mentioned Simon the Sorceror. I love that game to death, in particular the second one. As a personal favourite (though not "best of all time") it would probably have to be at least in my top 5.

I think the first 2 Monkey Island games (the only ones I truly consider to be MI games), the first 2 Quest for Glory games.. these all deserve mentions. I find it harder to pick out individual games from the SQ, LSL and KQ games... I think they do better as whole series' rather than picking out one that stands above the rest.

Hehe, LSL never makes it to these lists but I adored them when I was growing up.

Oh, and Lure of the Temptress was better than Steel Sky ^_- ....and just for good measure, some more name dropping: Sam and Max and DOTT!

QfG II is slightly better than IV, although both are superb. QfG I is good, but nowhere near as good as II or IV, and III was less good than I.

Grim Fandango, The Curse of Monkey Island, and Quest for Glory IV.

Quest for Glory II and Monkey Island II aren't far behind, but IV and Curse's atmospheres put them on top for me.

Grim Fandango is incredible (aside from a couple bizarre puzzles)... I'll be surprised if there's ever an adventure game that comes along to top it.

It's hard for me to break things down to a single game, so I'm sort of stuck with four. I love many adventure games, (especially the LucasArts & Sierra ones), but for me:

Grim Fandango
