The contest is over!
Only one entrant this month, so no voting. The spoils go directly to:

Topic: Mistaken Identity
This month's guidelines were set by Riaise.

I've been arrested for a crime I didn't commit. How was I supposed to know the painting I took wasn't the one I'd bought? The owner of the gallery was fine with...what do you mean that wasn't the owner?! And this coffee tastes awful. Wait, this is coffee, right?

Rules: Your game must include a case of mistaken identity, whether of a character, an object or a place. You don't have to use any of the scenarios above, they're just examples, but you can if you want to.

Ending:  April 30th

What is MAGS?

Started in 2001, MAGS is a competition for amateur adventure game makers. The idea is to create a game in under a month, following the rules set by the previous winner. It aims to help you work to a deadline, improve your skills, and provide a kick-start into making adventure games. Regardless of skill, MAGS is for everyone. Voting is based on "favorite" games, and not the most artistic, or the best coded. If you have bad art skills, use it as a chance to do some graphic work. If you're sub-standard at coding, use it as a chance to give scripting a go. Ultimately, people will vote for the most enjoyable entry.

Rules

• You may work in a team to produce an entry.
• You are not allowed to use any material created before the competition. Your game must be completely new! An exception is music and sound; you can use any audio that is freely available to the public.
• Any modules and templates featured in this board are also allowed.

Entering MAGS is simple. First, conceptualise your game following the month's criteria (see top). Second, create your game fueled only by coffee. Finally, post your game in this thread, including:

âÅ"“ A working download link
âÅ"“ The title of your game
âÅ"“ A suitable in-game screenshot

At the end of the month, voting will begin, usually lasting for fifteen days. The winner chooses the next month's theme, and their name and game is immortalised in the MAGS Archive. For more information, please visit the Official MAGS website.

But, Riaise, was it really a gallery? Galleries don't usually have coin-operated washers and driers! Are you sure it was a painting and not, say, a shoe? And how certain are we that the arresting officers were real cops and not strippers?

EDIT: Actually a game where all the hotspot labels said something different for objects could be funny/interesting. You hover over a chair and the label says "ball" etc. And maybe sometimes the graphic turned out to be correct but other times, upon further inspection, the label turned out to be true. Maybe the main character has a Delusional Misidentification Syndrome... Aw crap, now I want to make this game... SHUT UP, BRAIN!

Do it! You know you want to.  ;)

I may have some time for this if a team needs help!

DBoyWheeler

I might be willing to help with proofreading... and maybe be a voice (bear in mind that unless I'm talking to another person, I sound a bit monotone).

Nixxon

I wouldn't mind collaborating, no time to code or write puzzles but am happy to swing out some backgrounds.

You two must be joined at the hip (laugh)

This aged Lone Wolf will have to work much harder with you two ganging up (laugh)

Looking forward to your entry (nod)

Yay! It's good to hear that there are at least a couple of entries in the pipeline. I'm looking forward to seeing them!

I'll start the ball rolling.....

Agent Bond (007) has been sent for because the royal palace has been bugged by the Russians and is needed urgently.

Bond needs to undergo specialist bug training before he is allowed to start the mission at the royal palace and destroy all Russian planted bugs.

However, do MI6 have the REAL Bond or is it a case of mistaken identity?

Soon will be revealed as Bond's specialist bug training is being watched by M and agent Pettigrew.

Game progress: 40%

Cheers for the call-out, slasher, but I'm way too busy this month with the release of Chonicles Of Innsmouth approaching fast.

If I do have a quick idea that would be quick and easy to make I could sneak in in the last week possibly, but most likely not.

Riaise

Looking good, slasher! I noticed the Wimpy in the first screen, I love little details like that! :-D

Blondbraid

Looks nice slasher!

This seems like such an interesting theme, and I really wish I had the time and energy to give it a shot,
but I'm still a bit tired from making an entry last month, as well as working on my own project.  :(

I still have the sprites I made for the MAGS in January, but I'm unsure if reusing assets is against the rules.

Thank you for your encouraging comments (nod)

Blondbraid: I think the main graphics (backgrounds / characters) need to be new and not used before.

Come on... I'm almost 62 (laugh)

I have used the 'color wheel' for my game and whilst the rooms may look basic it's because I have been concentrating on actual game play.
