Hints & Tips / Re: Journey to Hell

Axxes,

I had some similar issues from the wind. I think it only works in rooms where you *need* to use the wind. Irritating, but at least it helps narrow down when you don't need the wind power. Same with the earthquake power - it's unlikely to crash in a room where you need to use it. In the rooms where you need wind, you can use it in all directions - at least I could
Spoiler
in the firefly crossroads room.

Axxes,

for your second challenge
Spoiler
I had to slow the game down quite a bit to handle the bull man. Even though you can't bring up the inventory menu, you can press F5 to bring up the save game option and F7 for the load option, so you don't need to go through the flying sequence each time, especially useful if you slowed the game down before fighting the bull man.

strategy
Spoiler
He has a pretty simple attack pattern, with clues before he attacks. He's a bull and bulls only do one thing.

Axxes,

You're right on the mark. Try slowing down the game, to give yourself a little time. And sometimes it helps to be repetitive.

Extra
Spoiler
Observe what happens when you hit the dragon with a fireball.

Extra2:
Spoiler
You want the rock to hit him just right.

Shadow

Ok, i'm trying not to flat out ruin it.
Spoiler
For me, like the translation puzzle, two of the positions had two possible images. But some of the positions are unambiguous. Think about what body parts are involved. You can narrow it down.

Shadow,

Here's more
Spoiler
Count how many positions are in the underground. That's the number of drawings that should remain.
[close]

More
Spoiler
The drawings should correspond to the positions, some almost exactly, others might require thinking about Martyn's descriptions of them

I had to narrow down my pool of possibilities by those methods, and then there was trial and error.

Shadow,
Spoiler
It's a strange puzzle. You have to think...flexibly and creatively about how the images correspond to what's happening. It's more straightforward than you think - keep to your first, simpler interpretation.

for another hint
Spoiler
you can definitely eliminate some of the images from your options.

for another
Spoiler
the animals are definitely out

Tabata,

My winged situation:
Spoiler
I have the golden wand, sword and horse, but think I need the fire power to fight the dragon. I don't know where the berries are or how to get them. I think they have something to do with the owl, but even on horseback I can't reach it.

Just a general tip for folks when stumped: don't ignore the beggar.

Of course, he can't help you with everything. Anyone have a hint for reaching the owl or the bird or another winged creature?

first

play with the wheel to see what you can and cannot move, and see how you can move the things.

second

look at the things that cannot move, that are "locked" in place, and look where their notches are.

Anyone else having trouble with the hieroglyphs?
I may be overthinking this, but so far I've determined
Spoiler
multiple letters assigned to the crane symbol (S and P) and the symbol with the sideways "9" (A and E). Also, I thought hieroglyphs were read from the opposite direction the animals are facing, and on the vase they face right so would go right to left, but the Adventurer says they read left to right. Whatever the message is, it seems to be broken down into 8 letters.

Finally made it through the garden puzzle - definitely the one that made the least sense to me this game. Am now struggling through some Egypt glitches:
Spoiler
It's tricky deploying the snake in the right way, otherwise he gets stuck and you can't get to him again. And once the snake has successfully killed the scorpion, it's possible he gets stuck, and then you can't walk through that room with the pictures anymore without the game crashing. I don't know if that's going to affect my attempts to translate the hieroglyphics. I've also noticed the game crashes if you try to earthquake in chapel of the convent (though why you'd want to do that, I don't know)

Tabata,
Spoiler
I'm not even sure what river I could explore. There's the one visible from the manure pile, but that's out of reach. There's the black water by the convent. There's the dry stream bed on the way to the magic peak.

I don't understand what the game wants me to do.

Ok, I'm asking for a "pest control" hint:
Spoiler
I've got a staff and a helmet to cover two holes, but I don't know how to get the mole into the helmet. Raining or shaking doesn't work. The berries, seeds and pancakes don't work as bait. Waiting by the holes all day doesn't do anything. I can't even see any sign of the mole.

Well the meteor for example - although that may be the only one that wasn't a case of my eyes just not looking at the right part of the screen. The black-on-black of the time text is also hard to see. Shadow1000's point is also valid. But none of that matters now that I've gotten into the groove of the game.

I dig the fantastic imagery, sort of Terry Gilliam meets Hieronymus Bosch. The style more than compensates for my having trouble getting into the logic of the game, partially because of some cosmetic/mechanical issues (like not every object having a "label" to identify it as something I can interact with).
