General Discussion / Zavvi
Thu 25/01/2024 14:11:45

Hi, fellow AGSers

Has anybody here had the misfortune to order goods from an outlet called Zavvi. I ordered goods a month ago, and I think
my eagerly awaited parcel is on a round the world cruise or, more than likely, languishing in a warehouse somewhere.

I am constantly fobbed off with various excuses, and have just about reached the end of my tether. Their customer feedback
is practically non existant and I get the feeling that they couldn't care less.

I shall be asking for a refund, but I am wondering if that will ever materialise.

Definitely a case of CUSTOMER BEWARE!

I don't know what the situation is in other countries, but in the UK we are being encouraged to take up the offer of
a covid 19 vaccination, when you are summoned. It will be available at GP surgeries, Pharmacies and walk in centres.
Vast amounts of people will undergo training to wield a needle. At the moment there are two Vaccines in circulation, the
Pfizer and Oxford-astrazeneca. There will be no option to choose which one is injected into you.

The Queen and Prince Phillip were innoculated on Saturday. It has not been disclosed which drug had the privilege of
being deposited into the Royal persons. No doubt a gold and diamond encrusted syringe was used, administered by the
top consultant in the country  :-D

If I do decide to chance my arm, so to speak, I would like to be given a choice. The Oxford jab is preferable, to me,
because it is manufactured in this country. Very patriotic I know. I would like it to be given by a GP or fully qualified
nurse, rather than someone with no medical qualifications whatsoever. It is not known how effective any of the drugs
will be, how long the benefits will last, or if they will work when other variants of Covid 19 appear.

So, to have the jab or not to have the jab, that is the question  :-\

General Discussion / Brexit....What's that?
Sun 27/12/2020 10:52:16

After hours of negotiations, which went on all through the night, a deal was finally brokered, on Christmas eve, between the UK and Europe.

Over four years having elapsed, since we decided to part company with our friends across the channel, and the term Brexit was first coined, it
would be time for great celebrations, you would think.  But, no....It was more like a damp squib, fizzling, than a barrage of brightly coloured
fireworks  lighting up our horizon.

Bloody coronavirus even managed to overshadow such a momentous occasion. Brexit has already retreated from the battlefield of most news
worthy item, while covid 19 and its fellow conspirators, continues to march resolutely on.

Hap....No, scratch that.  Crappy New Year everone. (I'm sure it will be  :) )

General Discussion / A Bonkers Brilliant Song
Mon 14/12/2020 19:37:41

To save me from throwing myself out of the window (Probably only the ground floor though) after listening to all the doom and gloom we are
subjected to, I decided to listen to 'Star Trekking, Across The Universe' by The Firm. Within seconds I was feeling considerably better as I sang
along and bopped to the music. If you need something to lift your spirits then this is the ideal tonic.
Another funny song is 'Everyone's A Wally' sung by Mike Berry. The sound track was on the game cassette, I believe.
If you can think of any songs that qualify as injecting the feel good factor into our lives, then please share.

General Discussion / Christmas Past
Fri 04/12/2020 19:18:51
I want to go back to the eighties, and stay there in the past,
When Christmas was so magical, and we all had a blast.
Festivities were a ritual, that we followed every year,
We spent the time together with those that we held dear.
Coloured lights festooned the town, Santa sat in his grotto,
Parents shopped until they dropped, then went home and got blotto.
Cards were written to everyone that lived along our street,
When we received the same from them, our Christmas was complete.
We loved to decorate the tree, balloons hung from the ceiling,
Singing carols by the fire, you could not beat the feeling.
Baking savoury sausage rolls, filling rich mince pies,
So they were ready for Xmas day, when we opened up our eyes.
And when the big day did arrive, we were excitable and keen,
Dashing downstairs at seven o'clock, in the hopes that 'He had been.'
Gobbling the turkey roast, proudly standing for the Queen,
Jelly, fruit and chocolate log, with lots of snacks in between.
We laughed at jokes from crackers, got a little plastic toy,
Played all the gifted board games, it really was a joy.
We wore our silly paper crowns, watched Morecambe and Wise on TV,
When at last we waddled off to bed, we felt as happy as could be.
The best was Christmas eighty four, when the rubber button Spectrum,
Was brought by Santa in his sack, with a guitar and a plectrum.
Life was so much simpler then, people seemed more content,
How I miss those halceon days, and wonder where they went.

Hope you enjoy the poem. Happy Christmas to one and all.  :)

General Discussion / Graphically pleasing
Wed 21/10/2020 16:04:37

My Geforce, 600 series, graphics card recently gave up the ghost after years of faithful service. As my PC is five or six years old
it was unlikely that it could be replaced by one of the 2000 series cards. I did some research and found that Currys/PC World had
an Asus GeForce GT1030 2 GB Phoenix Graphics Card for the very reasonable price of £85. If bought with an adapter it came to £97.
I ordered online to pick up in store. So, armed with compulsory mask, I visited Currys and spent fifteen fruitless minutes answering
various questions on my mobile in an attempt to pick up the item. In the end I had to find an elusive member of staff and ask for help.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I arrived home and installed the card. However, when I examined the adapter, I found it was DVI-I
and not DVI-D. It states this on the card, if you actually look. Luckily I found a local store that had one in stock. I hope the card continues
to give good service abw. Far Cry 4 and Assassins Creed both look and play well.

General Discussion / steam game gone AWOL
Mon 12/10/2020 21:20:16

A few years back I bought the physical copy of ' Thief ' with ' The Bank Heist ' DLC,
which required the game to be installed via Steam. After completing the game I removed
it from my library. The other day I thought it would be nice to give it another try. Unfortunately,
when I went to Steam support, Thief was not listed. I attempted to use the disc, entering the
registration code and was informed that I already owned the game. (You don't say) I did
eventually manage to get an installation option appear even though it was grayed out but
was then directed to click on next, but there was no such option. I have retrieved other games from Steam
with no difficulty so cant understand why this is unattainable with Thief. Does anybody have any idea why this should be?

General Discussion / Where is everybody
Sun 30/08/2020 14:20:33
Hi whoever may be here

Is it just me or is the footfall on AGS slowing to a trickle,
resembling a western street at high noon.

Certain people do post quite regularly, but others seem
to have vanished completely.

I realise, of course, that circumstances change and the
longer serving members have other commitments that
take priority.

Also, there are some fantastic games scheduled for 2021
which will keep their writing teams occupied for the next
few months.

It would be nice to see games discussed more (After all this
is what AGS was designed for) rather than time being taken
up playing guessing games etc.

Please don't take offence at anything I've written, and if you
don't like anything I've said just ignore me.

Greetings one and all

For the last couple of days I have been attempting to play
Rhiannon - Curse of the Four Branches, and I'm finding it
quite a strain on the little grey cells.

Not wishing to blow my own trumpet I have always thought
that I was pretty good at adventure games, but I have already
had to enlist the help of a walkthrough.  :(

Anybody who likes a challenge should give it a go.

If my amico mio, Vincent, reads this I think it is a game you
would enjoy.  :)

Hi fellow AGSers

How do people abroad cope with the fierce heat. The lily white population
(with the exception of a few bronzed bodies) of England aren't used to
sizzling, high temperatures and I feel it sucking the life out of me.

Mind you, I remember watching a TV programme telling the tale of a Brit
who had been lost in the outback of Australia. There was great concern
for his safety. He would never have been found if a helicopter crew hadn't
seen his white skin shining up through the canopy of trees.

So its not all bad  (laugh)

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Uploading game
Mon 05/08/2019 14:50:51
This may seem a silly question to all you AGS aficionados, but I am curious as to
the best site, webpage, whatever to upload a game once it is completed. I believe
Gamejolt and Itch.io are options. However, is it better to upload to a personal
website to achieve maximum downloads. The chances that I will ever need to do this
are a squillion to one, but I suppose stranger things have happened.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Halloween game
Sun 29/10/2017 13:20:56
With Halloween fast approaching, I would like to recommend an AGS game
that will get you in the mood. It is called The Decorcist, by Retro-Jay,
and features spooks and monsters we all know and love. Happy Trick or Treating
to you all.

General Discussion / AGS Awards
Tue 29/03/2016 15:04:09
Hi there fellow AGSers,

After nominating my chosen games, to be entered into the AGS Awards, by clicking on 'Nominate games here' highlighted in blue,
I then decided to vote for my favourites. Now, I might seem rather dense, but I was looking for a similar lead to voting. After
much head scratching I found that by clicking on the 'AGS AWARDS VOTES', in the large lettering, this took me to the required field.
Thought I'd just mention this in case there are others who are having the same problem.
