Critics' Lounge / Interior background lighting
Mon 07/08/2017 13:11:23
I'd appreciate some input on this work in progress background before I start adding more detail. Mostly I'm looking for advice on how to get the sunlight right. I'm going for that really sharp contrast between cold blue and warm orange but I don't want it to look too out of place. I'm restricting myself to use the EDG32 color palette, so only these colors are available:

Here's the background:

I keep drifting away from AGS more and more but I'm not done with my dream of becoming a game developer! Yesterday marked my 10 year anniversary on the AGS forums and what better way to celebrate that than to release my first commercial game. My friend and I set up a small game company called Team Twistoid and we started developing mobile games and now we're working quite hard to get ourselves out there. Our first release is called Factory Escape and it's a challenging autorunner where you control a cute little robot trying to escape a conveyer belt pushing you towards certain doom. It's available on Google Play now so if you've got an Android device, do check it out! iOS version will probably be released soon after the holidays.

There are is a paid version (0,99€) with more content and a lite version (ad supported) of the game on Google Play. You can get the game here:

Factory Escape Lite

If you wish to stay up to date with our future projects go ahead and like our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/twistoid

We'll keep updating the game with more levels and features while also working on our next game project. Hope you enjoy it! :D

It's a browser-playable jam game I made with two friends of mine over the course of 3 days. We had a blast making it. Hope you like it. :D

I was voting for this game in the game database and got this error message. I suppose my vote was still recorded because I am unable to vote again but my heartfelt and long comment was lost forever. :(

QuoteThank you, your votes have been recorded!
Couldn't connect to database: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 't put a ";-)" smiley face in dialogue, it just looks silly and breaks the immers' at line 1

Maybe has something to do with the semicolon? I'd imagine there's parsing for the quotation mark, right?

I find this utterly interesting and figured anyone around here who hasn't heard of it yet would too. I placed my pre-order today (even though I'm a poor student). You should too!

This post is aimed at the other beta testers.

I'm stuck in the part after the scene where Ben shoots Percival Quentin Jones and Alice and I'm clueless as to what to do next. In my inventory I have the notepad, the gun, gasoline, and the socks you find in the forest. I tried to open the door but it tells me I have to hide the bodies before leaving. I tried moving them but I get a message saying "You shouldn't leave fingerprints." Am I supposed to use the socks to cover my hands? That didn't work when I tried it. Is this a bug?

Also, I can't use gas because I can't fuse it. Where do I find a lighter or matches?

What is Pabstrum?

Well, yours truly started playing the guitar a couple of years ago. Sometime in 2008 I wrote my own song. Since then I've written quite a few more. I started calling this music project of mine Pabstrum.

During this past summer with the help of our fellow AGSers Petteri and Ishmael I've started recording some songs and composing more of them. Now we've finally come to the point where we can produce some pretty good quality stuff so I thought I'd post a link to our newest creation titled All Those Bad Things.

You can find the song on my MySpace page here: http://www.myspace.com/pabstrum

Or alternatively you can download an MP3 file, which doesn't have MySpace's bad sound quality: http://www.pabstuff.com/recordings/Pabstrum%20-%20All%20Those%20Bad%20Things.mp3

Pablo - Lyrics, composing, singing and acoustic guitar
Petteri - Bass
Ishmael - Electric guitar and all the mixing/editing/magic

So yeah, I noticed a bunch of other people shared their bands here a while ago so I thought I'd jump the bandwagon. Enjoy and please share your opinions! :)

Edit: I feel like it needs to be mentioned that even though we're all Finnish this is in fact NOT a metal band. ;)

The following post contains outdated information. Sadly Lapaset 2009 is actually cancelled.

Last year people seemed to be busy with all sortsa stuff so Lapaset failed to be arranged. Well, it's gonna be back this year, assuming enough people are interested.

To those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, Lapaset is the Finnish equivalent for Mittens. It's an AGS meeting that was first arranged in 2006 by Haddas in his home in Liljendal and the following year it was co-hosted by Visy and Tuomas in Tampere. It is not yet confirmed but it's likely to be arranged in Liljendal again this year. It has been confirmed! Lapaset 2009 will be held in Liljendal, Finland.

Most Finnish regulars and some folks from outside of Finland have already shown keen interest in going this year. Anyone is welcome! If you want to join the fun please post in this topic! I will gather a list of all the confirmed attendees in this post. You can also post any questions you might have.

Date: Monday, 8th June - Sunday, 14th June
Place: Liljendal, Finland. Haddas' parents' house.

Discuss! :D

List of attendees:

Confirmed attendees
  • Haddas
  • Pablo
  • zabnat
    Ishmael

    Most probably gonna be there

General Discussion / Yo-yo
Mon 13/10/2008 18:05:21
It's been a while since I broke my last yoyo and am thinking of getting a new, better one. Is there a yoyo expert around here? I'm wondering if there's a good brand I should look into or something...

I was looking at this one and it looks quite promising, but probably a bit too big: http://yoyowiki.org/wiki/Henrys_Viper

If anyone has any valid suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them. Keeping in mind that I'm not really willing to put more than around 40 euros on it. I would like a quality one though, since I like yoyoing very much.

General Discussion / Your bestest AGS buddy?
Sun 13/04/2008 03:22:27
This is the thread that's gonna make most people go "Why is nobody mentioning me!?" and make other people shed happy tears.

So there I was, lying in my bed, trying to sleep. It was no use, I don't feel sleepy at all. So I started thinking about stuff. About people. About AGS people. I began to wonder: "Whom do I consider my best friend around the AGS circles?"

This was an intriguing question for me, since I've made a lot of new friends around here and I like them all so much. But there are a couple of people who I'm more in touch with than the others. Finally I managed to cut the list of people down to two. Both are the first people from here that I really got to know, Mozesh and Ishmael. These are the guys I can talk to about almost everything that's going on with me and get along with better than the rest. Between these guys it's almost impossible to me to choose whom I consider a better friend...

I'm almost certain that every regular member of this very socially active community, who has been around for a long enough time, has made some friends here. To you I present this question:

Who is your bestest AGS buddy and why?

Hints & Tips / Below Zero: Prologue
Sat 26/01/2008 16:57:10
No matter what I do, I can't get past the first room. I've talked to everyone about everything. I tried using the pocket watch on the car's engine but the player character says he should let Luigi do it. But then I can't give the pocket watch to Luigi.

Am I missing something?

Hello everyone! That's right, we had an AGS meeting and you didn't! Muahahaha!

Ishmael and I decided to visit Haddas without asking for any further permission from Haddas himself. And so we did. Here's what happened...

Haddas picked us up. No unfunny jokes here.

Ishmael started climbing all over the car.

They really despise me.

Me after just waking up. All ready to give you a BIG KISS! :-*

Ishmael after not yet waking up.

Haddas just before beating me up.

The healthy Finnish breakfast.

You can hide but you can't run!

This picture proves that someone else actually did manage to find Liljendal.

No further explanation required.

Ishmael gets ready to refuel himself.

ONION RINGS!

He really did carry that bottle around with him everywhere.

Alright, now this is just getting ridiculous...

Yeah, uh... okay...

And that's the story of how I came to possess the green light bulb.

...You see him building a 13 floors high card house. Which by the way is my new personal record. Go me!

I look quite tired there...

Also, you know what's mandatory after such an effort:

The AGS Colouring Ball

This weeks sprite:

The rules:
  • Max colours: 16 + transparency/background.
  • If you need to you can alter the outline of the sprite as long as it somewhat keeps its original form.
  • You must have at least a little bit of fun colouring the sprite! This is not an optional rule!
  • You should remember to brush your teeth every day. Twice.
  • Deadline is 26th January.

Okay, I guess that's all. Get going! :D

Okay, this might be very dumb and the solution must be very simple. I just can't see it. :)

I want my GUI to be not clickable if I click on it with the right mouse button, but clickable if click on it with the left one. Yes, it sounds very simple, but it seems impossible for me to script, since it seems that wherever I put the gui[].Clickable = false; script, it still disables the GUI too late. This is because I need the GUI to be disabled after the mouse button is pressed. Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks!

Many AGS developers like the way the default Save and Restore GUIs work. They just dislike the way they look. I know I do. That boring gray color... ugh. ;) And since many find it difficult to make Save and Load GUIs themselves they usually just leave the default GUIs in their games.

So here I present you Simple Save & Load GUIs. They pretty much work exactly the way the AGS default GUIs work. But now you have the chance to change their graphical outfit! I also have added a savegame deleting feature for both GUIs.

Download Simple Save & Load 1.0 here!
Mirror (Thanks Neole!)

Just import all the GUIs and the module into the AGS editor and put the following codes where you want to open the GUIs. (ie. inside on_key_press):
Code: ags

SaveLoad.OpenSaveGUI();
SaveLoad.OpenRestoreGUI();

I think I've gotten rid of all the major bugs, but please report here if you find any. :)

If anyone knows the solution to level 52 (the final level of Mercury) then please let me know. I'm desperately stuck here. :)

If a GUI is visible on the screen at the same time as I use DisplayTopBar, the text box appears under the GUI and not in front of it.
