Basically, #AGS Quotefile doesn't let me add quotes. I keep getting this:

QuotePlease log in to the AGS forums to contribute a quote.
Click here once you've logged in.

Even after I log in. Like, I tried it right now, and it still tells me to log in (I am logged in, right, guys? Guys?)

P.S. if it's not due to a bug and I just can't add quote for some other reason (e.g. "All the quotes you've added so far SUCKED ASS, and you've added a SHIT TON of those"), it might be worth being more clear about that in the error message.

General Discussion / RIP Seth Putnam
Tue 14/06/2011 09:41:27
I only heard of it now, but apparently Seth Putnam has died three days ago (that is, on June 11), age 43.

It really saddens me that all the great people are going away from us, like Douglas Adams, and Michael Jackson, and other great people.

I am really grateful to Seth for all the great music he made and performed really helped me fight through the worst parts (so far) of my life, and for his attitude towards life in general which really inspires me to do great things. And stuff.

R.I.P.

General Discussion / SHEEEP HD (my new game)
Fri 04/02/2011 15:07:01
I maded a game! But not in AGS, so I'm posting it here.

It's a remake of my hourgame called SHEEEP. In 800x600 resolution (as opposed to 320x240) and in a different engine.

Here's a screenshot:

Here's download links:
- Windows version. Windows users can just download and play, yahoo!
- Linux/MacOS version. Note that you must also download and install LÖVE 2D engine for your OS. The version must be 0.7.0 or perhaps higher.

Cheers!

WHAT?
Make a GAME in an HOUR, with a THEME.
WHEN?
7pm UK time.
WHERE?
In this THREAD and ON IRC.
WHO?
YOU, not ME. I'm setting the THEME.
WHY?
For FUN and the FUTURE.
WHORE?
Please CAMWHORE or BLOG.
WEB?
TerranRich's SHUTUPLOAD.
WHEE!

So uh... since I forgot about hosting one THIS saturday, i think it'd be fine if i'll host it NEXT saturday instead. That's 2nd of October, if I'm not wrong. Write here about whether you'd want to participate. And especially if you want to have an "early submission" kind of thing, sadly I have my schedule on Saturdays.

Ok, ok, some fine print. The theme will be set by the previous winner (that's me!) and announced here and on IRC at the beginning of the hour. You will have an hour to make the game, plus 15 minutes to debug and upload it. Making a game from scratch is strongly encouraged, but you can use a pre-made template and music from one of the hoursong competitions. I can make a game too but it won't be voted on. I can make trophies though. Please don't use one of those upload sites with 30 second waiting periods and crazy popups. ShutUpLoad works, so just use it, unless you have your own hosting.

It's probably not the right place to post this, but whatever. I just wanted to start writing again.
So... Opinions? Onions? Anyone?

Death and Hymen

Once Death met a Hymen.
"How's it going?" - said Hymen. "Wasn't it you who saved that guy's life?"
"What guy? The one that killed you? Yes, it was me. I hope you're not having a grudge against me."
"Oh no, not at all. I just wanted to ask you one thing."
"What thing?"
"Is it true that you also control the Life? Not only take dead things away?"
Death took off her hood and turned out to be a young and bright little gigner girl. Bright meaning there was literally some sort of light emanating from her. She giggled.
"Yes, it is true."
"And that guy whose life you saved... Doesn't he now owe you one?"
"I guess so."
"So, how about returning a favour?" - Hymen asked.
"Oh, I think I know what you're talking about," - said Life, putting down her hood. It suddenly became way darker.
"Yeah. I know *exactly* what to do," - said Death and turned into the Death of Condoms.

Critics' Lounge / I photoshopped a picture!
Sat 03/07/2010 10:08:02

What do you think? Does it classify as photoshopped picture? Does it seem legit to you? Does it provoke deep and profound feelings? Even though I've used Gimp instead of Photoshop to make it, so I can't really say I photoshopped it.

Oh, and here is the guy alone, somewhast sloppily cropped.

Hourgame Saturday
What's an Hourgame competition?
The purpose of Hourgame Saturday is to encourage amateur game-making, or to put it bluntly, to make you plant your ass in your chair and finally make something.
In this activity your task is to make an AGS game within a strict and very short deadline (i.e. one hour).

When will it take place?
This Hourgame session will take place on Saturday May 1, 2010. After last week's poor turnout, we're going back to the regularly scheduled time. Starting at 19:00 BST (14:00 New York, 20:00 Budapest) participants will have an hour to make their games + 15 minutes to beta test / upload (i.e. the deadline is 20:15 BST).

How do I participate?
A theme is set by the previous week's winner and by the contest's host in event of his/her absence. It will be announced on IRC (3 simple steps to IRC) and here.

Additional info:
- While it is not forbidden for the theme-setters to participate in the activity, their games cannot be voted for (to prevent accusations of cheating and to discourage regular participation).
- Instead, theme-setters are encouraged to draw trophies for the contest's winners.
- Making your game from scratch is strongly encouraged, though it is not forbidden to use music or artwork from public sources if you are allowed to (e.g. using public domain music tracks in your game is OK, but not really necessary). It is also possible to use a pre-existing AGS template for your game (e.g. the Verb-Coin GUI template).
- You cannot use stuff you've made earlier, because this competition is about making something new.

Camwhoring:
If you have Camtasia or Camtasia-esque software, it would be great to see your "Making of"! Or blog about it, or just open Notepad, do something! No twittering.

Uploading:
Suggested hosts to upload your entry to are:
Recommended:
TerranRich's ShutUpload

Not recommended:
http://www.mediafire.com/
http://www.sendspace.com/
http://www.rapidshare.com/

Or your own place.

Voting:
Just tell us your favourite game. You don't have to enter to vote!
(If you want to tell us what you liked and disliked about all the entries, that would be super nice of you!)
The voting will end when all the entrants have voted, or on Wednesday, April 21, whichever comes sooner.

Please post below if you're interested in participating, if the change in time will/won't work for you, or if you have any other questions.

Critics' Lounge / A little game concept.
Thu 17/12/2009 11:16:13
It's not even my concept (it's been discussed on IRC previously, and after some research I have found this page) but the problem is whether anyone would play an adventure game like this.

Basically it's a regular adventure game in 40x25 but without limits on colour (it may be not visible, but I've used gradient for the sky on that pic).

Some notes:
1. The ugly thing below the moon is the mouse cursor, and yes, it moves on a 8x8 grid too, in order to not to break the extemely blocky experience.
2. The ugly white background behind the @OVERHOTSPOT@ thingie is currently a placeholder, that'd take a couple of script lines to replace in the worst case. Fixed.
3. The font is just a SCI font with 48x40 pixel characters :=  I tried to use 48x48 font (to have spaces between lines of text), but it broke my AGS, so there must be a limit on that. It also kind of breaks Radiant's FontEdit, so I had to export it to .bmp first and edit it with a graphics editor then reimport the thing. I know that there are .ttf fonts similar to this one in appearance, but it'd be troublesome to have precise block size and letter positions with .ttf's.

An one-screen tech demo made in a couple of hours.

Hourgame Saturday

I think the general concensus was that it's OK to move to C&A board. Also I am hosting this compo instead of Bulbapuck because he will be busy this evening having to growl for his band. And I had the second place last time. Yay.

Sorry, totally couldn't get to the forums earlier, but I am here now, and I'm introducing the second iteration of the Hourgame compo!

Then the voting takes place till the Monday Morning (since I can't use internet on Sunday afternoons, that's what we'll have to settle with).

Basic rules:
- Participants should join IRC for rules and updates, but stickam/tokbox is fine as long as there's someone to relay the information.
- The theme is set by the previous week's winner and by the contest's host in event of his/her absence.

Hello and welcome to a hopefully weekly event, the Hourgame Saturday.
The purpose of Hourgame Saturday is, to encourage the amateur game-making, or to put it bluntly, to make you tear your ass off your chair and finally make something.
In this activity your task is to make an AGS game within a strict and a very short deadline (i.e. one hour).

Timeline:
The event takes place every (every other?) Saturday, starting at 7:00 pm GMT, when the theme is revealed on the IRC and in this thread. The participants then have one hour to make their entries and 15 more minutes for uploading. In brief: the deadline for entries is 8:15 pm.
Then the voting takes place till the Sunday afternoon

Basic rules:

- The theme is set by the previous week's winner and by the contest's host in event of his/her absence.

Uploading:
Suggested hosts to upload your entry to are:
- Or your own place.

Voting:
When voting, award every game with 1 to 10 score points (1 being lowest possible score). Entry with the highest score wins. In case of a draw the winner is decided upon a fight! To DEATH!! On CHAINSAWS AND LEPRECHAUNS!!! ...er, we'll see when we get there.

P.S. (READ THIS FIRST!)
That's a draft of the rules, revised a little by CodeJunkie.
The first compo will be today, yes.
Please post here if you're ok with the timeline (and especially if the timeline is NOT ok for you, but you'd like to join otherwise).

Today we decided to start a webcomic. "We" being myself and Babar.
It is called Bokziboodl.
It is about the green-blue man called Bokziboodl.
His favourite pie is... well, you'd better read the comic.

Art in the first episode is by myself, the plot is kind of a collaboration.

A little girl seemingly lost in the forest of old. I'd animate her, but my headache's getting worse, so here's liveless version for now. I am also dissatisfied with her dress, the blue one she's wearing underneath her cape, that is.

Soon there'll be a wolf and her grandma too. I hope.

Upd: That unhealthy color of her legs was ought to symbolize stockings she's wearing. I'll change it to a healthier one later.

Well, actually this one's gonna be the 90003rd one, but anyway.
We've got more than 90000 (ninety thousand) of posts in this board! Way to go!

Critics' Lounge / A (gothsy?) song?
Sun 03/02/2008 17:31:55
Howdy hoo, Critics Lounge.
That's me, FSi, long time no see.

Couple of days ago I made a song, not to use it for someting but mostly for my own enjoyment.

Now, while I *may* like (a little) what I got, I'm still thinking that it could be made better. But as usual I'm unable to catch the exact hows and wheres.

p.s. Oh, the link is right here.
