Hi guys

I thought this might be of interest to you since this has to do with consoles and games from the 80s and 90s.

8-bit Memoirs is an eBook/discmag containing stories (memoirs) written by my better half. These stories are about the computers and consoles he experienced back in the 8-bit era, which includes the Phillips G7000, the Amstrad CPC and the Amiga. The stories describes how he experienced (some of) the games on those systems and he also shows his own creations with BASIC coding on the Amstrad CPC as well as his musical tunes.

I have been helping him out with the illustration part, so the final product contains about 15 illustrations from situations he remembers that were never photographed. There are also videos and screenshots from the different games his stories are about.

The stories are written from a young childs perspective, sometimes followed up by a comment from the now adult author.
While reading, you listen to a nice 5-hour long playlist of handpicked music that suits the stories well.

I think the whole project turned out pretty good so it's definetely worth a peek.

Watch teaser video here

It's free for download, but you can also buy a Blu-ray disc version if you wish.

General Discussion / Ukko's Journey released!
Wed 15/02/2017 09:06:25
Hi guys

I hope it's okay to post this here.

Back in 2009 LuBlu Entertainment (boyfriend and I) released Ukko's Journey as a cellphone game.
Now it's possible to play it on your Xbox One / PlayStation 3 / PlayStation 4.
It's released under this new label we call Blu-Play which stands for homebrew games for those three consoles.

Are you a developer, you might be interested in reading more about how you can develop your own homebrew games for the consoles - read more here

<a href="https://youtu.be/1bC5FV-2AY4">-- Youtube video demonstrating Ukko's Journey --</a>

The game Ukko's Journey is a side scrolling game featuring colorful graphics, sound effects and catchy music. You can download the ISO file for free at www.blu-play.com
There's also a buy option if you want it as a physical disc.

If you play it, I'd love to hear what you think!  :cheesy:

I'm curious to know how people organize their game project.
Do you write a story or do you just start and see how it goes. How carefully do you plan everything out before you start putting it all together?
Any do's and don'ts?

My first game was created kinda backwards. I started doing backgrounds and developed the story around them. I wonder how the professionels go about it and in what order they do things.

Hello

I'm working on a new AGS project and I'm using the verb coin template to get familiar with its functions.
I've imported a few rooms and a character and made him move (all basic stuff).

It annoyed me a lot that I had to double click to make my character move, and found out it's because I'm using a wacom tablet.
With a mouse there's no problems (a single click is enough to move the character).

I'm always using a tablet, also when I play games and I have never before had this problem. I know it's a minor thing, but perhaps it could be fixed? :-)

LuBlu Entertainment presents Pirate Diamonds!!!

It took us 3 years to complete this game-project, despite it being a very simple and short game. (That's how long it takes when you have a daytime job + a kid to take care of at the same time too).
But now it's finally completed, and available for Android and JavaME enabled devices!!!

See Pirate Diamonds - a simple mobile arcade game to read about the game.
Download for Android at Google Play
Download for your JavaME enabled phone by visiting Pirate Diamonds - a simple mobile arcade game

Now go play and challenge all your friends to spread the game!

And also remember to rate it at Google Play. :-D

Thanks!

Just wondering. I know there ARE other girls around here on the forums but where are you?
Girls, write something here in this thread and let us know you're there!  ;D

Because I'm actually curious to know how many active girls that are around and who they are.

I'm in the early stages of creating a new adventure game, but this time I really want to make a real effort of it. With my first game (Fading Shades), I created a bunch of rooms and made up a story later. Now, I've started with the story, and I have a few characters and puzzles ready that I think will fit in nicely. My problem is, that I'm a lousy storyteller, and I'm probably making the story more complicated than it needs to be. At the same time I want everything you do to make sense.

So, I'm seeking inspiration from you guys: How do you work when you create a game?
Do you just make something up along the way, or do you have everything planned before you begin to create the rooms? I know you can't have everything planned in detail. There should be room for spontanius ideas for puzzles and rooms if they fit in.

This is how I'm trying to do it this time:
1) Story/Characters
2) Rooms and puzzles
3) Drawing the characters
4) Prototype graphics for rooms and inventory items
5) Coding the game
6) Redrawing the prototype graphics and inventory items

Where do you begin? And how do you work? And what inspires you to create the story/characters and puzzles?

I have been saving this piece of music on tape for a long long time now.
It is something they played in the radio in the late 80's / beginning of the 90's.
My older sister pressed the record button after the music had been playing for nearly 15 minutes, and got the rest of it on tape, but not enough to identify who the artist was.
I kept it in all these years because someday I hope I'll discover the origin of the music. But without a name, year or even a genre where would I begin to look?!

Today, I finally got the oppotunity to transfer my old tapes to the PC.
So this is where I hope someone out there could help me. Perhaps you recognice this piece of music or have suggestions on where to ask for help. I would be very grateful if you'd listen to it.

There is nearly 30 minutes of music and it sounds like there is more to it. It doesn't seem to end.

If you have any clue what this is, please do tell me. You are also free to spread the link if you know a person who might know what this is.

EDIT: I've uploaded the file in wav format as well. You can download it here: http://www.blueangel.dk/musik/whatisthis.wav

UPDATE: The year this was recorded was 92 or 93 according to my sister. She also informed me that is was most likely a live mix in the studio. So that means there is no cd to look after.
But I am still very interessted in the names of each of the tracks!

Below is the names of the discovered tracks so far:
00:00 - 01:35 -  IO - libre (andrea parker remix)
01:36 - 06:58 - Unknown
06:59 - 12:01 - Unknown - But sounds a lot like Liquid Liquid - Cavern. Perhaps a special mix?
12:02 - 17:46 - Octaves/Tremolo's - Spike
17:48 - 25:05 - Model 500 - The Flow (Underworld Mix)
25:06 - 26:07 - Unknown

I'm sure you all have some kind of memory of having created something obviously fantastic artwork as a child.
Perhaps you remember presenting this "artwork" to your parents with the words "Look what I made!"

This time you've created something that exceeds your own expectations of what you were capable to create, and you rush to tell the world to see it.... But what is it? This is where you come in.

Rules:
- No color restrictions
- You may flip and rotate all you like, but as usual no scaling
- You decide what material this creation is made of. It could be clay, cloth, cake, mud and sticks - Anything you can think of!

Here's the story -

You've gone for a long walk, and suddenly finds yourself in a place you haven't been to before.
It seems your thoughts have kept you busy as your legs did theirs to get you here.

As you stop to look around your new surroundings, your eye catches something... A bottle!?
You decide to take a closer look at it........

And this is where YOU come in! What is that bottle?? Or what's in it? Perhaps a tiny village full of people, or a message? Or is it just empty? (Or has it fooled you to think that?)

Rules:
You may rotate the image, but not scale it.
You can not alter the outline.
No colour limit
Including a background is a bonus!

Have fun!

Fading Shades is a small 1st person adventure game, set in an unknown location.
The only way out is by crossing the rainbow bridge but you can't as long as there are colours missing...

It's my first game and I know a lot of things could be improved, but I must admit that after working on it for the past 3 years, I just want to finish the project instead of risking it ending up never released.

AGS Games in Production / Fading Shades v0.5
Sat 28/06/2008 18:17:11
Hi all

So, after working on it for years it seems I'm finally ready for my first AGS game to be tested. So I'm looking for people who'd like to betatest for me.

"Fading Shades" is a very simple first person adventure game. It's not too big, since it's my first attempt at creating an adventure game.

Download here (link removed  ;) You'll have to wait for the release now. )

If you feel like testing for me, please answer the following questions:

1) How long did it take you to complete the game?
2) Did you find the game too difficult? Too easy? What's too difficult / easy?
3) Do you find the graphics too dark on your monitor?
4) Find any bugs?
Any other feedback also appreciated.

Thanks for helping

I have a problem regarding sound in my game.
When entering room 4 to room 8, I want the same ambient sound to play. So far I'm stuck in the middle of two options:

•Option 1: I can use PlaySound or PlaySoundEx, which plays continually as I walk through the rooms, without starting over. But I can't make it repeat itself.

•Option 2: I can use PlayAmbientSound, which makes the sound loop, but it stops abruptly when I leave the room.

I'm using a rather old version of AGS (version 2.71), so maybe it isn't possible to accomplish what I need.
Any ideas how to work around this? Or is it possible that there is a way to solve it, that I just haven't discovered?

Topic: Something strange

What is this? A man? A bird? Some weird machine? A hole in the wall?
It's up to you to decide. Surprise me with your innovative thinking. ;)

Max colours: 30

The outline may be mirrored and rotated, but not scaled.
The outline may be altered, as long as it is still recognisable.

And the usual bonuspoints is given for including a background and for originality.

Edit: I think the entries so far are really great, so I've decided to throw in some trophies for the winners  ;D

Hi all.

I have 3 objects in one room (a, b & c). They're all of equal size and they're all overlapping each other so that (a) is visible, and (b & c) behind it is invisible.

When I click on the first object (a), I want it to remove itself and turn on (b & c). - That works fine too BUT for some reason it is always (c) (the end image) that lies on top of (b) nomatter what I do.

Is there some way to tell AGS in what order theese object should be?
I have not been able to find it anywhere. I have really tried a lot of different methods and for a time I thought it had something to do with one object being larger than the other and therefore dominant.
