For this fortnight's comp I want you to take four fictional characters, from any mediums you want  - for example Ken Masters, Bruce Wayne, Tom Sawyer and Peter Griffin (though they don't have to be that disparate) - and then put them in the same place at the same time.  And then during the course of the story I want you to kill three of them.

There is no word limit but I’m looking for characters to retain their original personality and back-story as much as possible, though you can change their era and location if required.  You get to decide exactly when, where and why these people are together and you can populate the story with as many characters of your own as you like.

The piece can take any form you want, from a murder mystery to a bedtime story, a newspaper article to a police crime scene report, the idea is to just let your imagination run wild and to see in what new ways you can present established and familiar characters.

Voting will start on the 20th for two day.  Enjoy!

The competition this time round is to write the first passage of a novel which stars your favorite gaming character (or any game character you'd like to write about, you don't have play favorites)

The passage could be come from a whole new adventure for the character or from a novelisation of the game they featured in, it's up to you.  Also you're not bound by the location/period/genre of the original game, you can do what ever you want with the character.

There is a word limit of 300 words - just think of it as the first page of the novel where you have to prepare the reader for the story to come.

So, have fun and voting will start on the 9th (unless I've completely misunderstood the format in which case I'm sure someone will let me know...)

From the guy that named Nelly Cootalot comes a new adventure that will for ever change the way you view games made by long ginger haired, beardy men that live in York.

Stediddy in IP1; Employment.

Your hero for this high octane adventure of office etiquette and merciless death is a humble young, apparently Mexican, moron know to all as Stediddy.

After a number of misdemeanours young Stediddy has been told in no uncertain terms that he must seek out gainful employment or face some serious, if a tad unfocused, wrath.

And so you join Stediddy as he approaches his interview, ready to embark on a journey of Full Voice Acting, migs and megs of hand drawn graphics and multiple conclusions all in the hope that he will reach “The Good Ending”.

This is the first part of an episodic adventure for young Stediddy.  It is not a lengthy jaunt but it is, hopefully, an entertaining one filled with clocks and confusion, mute men and misdirection, railroads and randomness all with the promise of Hot Girls to come.

The game can be downloaded here and I very much hope you enjoy this far fetched tale of a badly drawn simpleton.

Stediddy in IP1; Employment.

This is my first real attempt at making an adventure game, and even now its questionable what kind of a game will be achieved, with its “unique” takes on graphics, dialog and puzzles.
What I am in the process in finishing is the tale of a humble young fellow who has been sent to get a job for hazy and wholey irrelevant reasons.  When he reaches his interview he is confronted by abstract thought, wavy lines and a number of different possible endings (7 and counting…) all wrapped up in a crude, yet hopefully endearing, hand drawn world.
The game will not be a lengthy one but is the first in a series of adventures for the stick-figure protagonist as he attempts to navigate his way though a life filled with obtuseness, mice rail-roads, hot girls and the ever present threat of untimely death.

To begin with I know these are not the most action spectacular screenshots you will have been presented with but they are A) the only ones I have to hand and B) representative of the game (some how they do make sense when you seem them in action).
Now, as you can probably see from the screenshots illustration is not my strong point, but I thought I may as well work within my limits (and the game features characters from an original, kinda pants comic strip I did while bored in work which can be viewed here http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=66001781&blogID=243368377
and what I was striving for was an interactive episode of the comic, though hopefully the games will have more structure than the strip)
So, while it may not be pretty, the graphics I feel are functional, consistent and fitting for the 15ish minutes of left-field game play that this first Stediddy game will offer, and like I say static images don't do them full justice (well, its never going to be Okami, but I think you know what I mean).

Progress -
- Graphics 100%
- Puzzles 100%
- Scripting 80%
- Music/sound 20%

I can kind of understand that so far I have not made Stediddy’s first adventure seem like an essential one, but I hope that there will be a few people willing to give something a bit unusual a go when I finish it off in a week or so, and if nothing else it should make you smile (and will really not eat up that much of your life with its short play time)

Thanks for reading and I hope you've got a place in your gaming heart for a moron with a stupid name (it’s pronounced stee-did-ee) and a Billy Whizz haircut.

Che-oz,
Ceri
