I'm currently coming up with concept for a platformer. I know AGS can be used to make platformers, but I'm wondering if there is any software out there (free) that would be better for the job?

General Discussion / Forum Avatar.
Tue 29/07/2008 08:14:28
General discussion seems the best place to put this.
Is anyone willing to make me a new avatar? Whenever I try to improve my current one, it just looks jagged and awful. And it clashes badly with the forum's colour scheme. I want it to look the same as it does now, but feel free (If you do decide to mess around with it for me) to change it a little. Most importantly, I want it to have transparency, and (if you can) various sizes.

I know it's a lot to ask, but my drawing skills have died because I've been trying to improve it for the last week, to no avail, and It's really bugging me.

General Discussion / Firefox problems
Tue 17/06/2008 23:00:38
I'm using the new release of Firefox 3, But I've noticed this problem for a long time before now. Enlarged sprites in firefox are nigh-on impossible to make out clearly. The image linked to below was taken of the same page, today, at the same time, with the same settings on my computer with two different browsers. As you can see, IE7 shows the sprite clearly but firefox is just rubbish. Can anyone help?

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Plot write-up
Tue 20/05/2008 17:59:43
Game makers... I've got an Idea for my plot, but I want to write it up neat and tidy, so I can keep track of it. How did you (if at all) write the plot? Is there a technique which works best for you or did you just jot it down as it came to you?

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Quick Question
Mon 31/03/2008 19:41:47
I'm really stuck on ideas, but i'm thinking of doing a star wars game, but it just makes fun of everything star wars is.

(replace Star Wars with James Bond, Harry Potter etc.)

Question: Would you play it?

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Cliché
Fri 29/02/2008 18:28:22
My games' plot revolves around someone who escaped a hostage situation in a hotel, and the captors took some of the captives to  an unknown location. He obviously has to save them. Too clichéd?

Edit: One of the captives is his mother. Sorry I forgot to mention it, it is kind of important.

I was wondering... do You game creators play your own games when they're done? Because I think (by the time I've been through months/years of poring over my game) I would be comletely sick of them... is this true?

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Locked room...
Fri 15/02/2008 18:48:02
I'm writing up all the puzzles and the plot for my new game, and In one scene, the protagonist is tied and locked in a room. I swore blind when starting this project there would not be a locked room scene, but what do you guys think? Too cliched?  :-\

General Discussion / I need to know the law.
Fri 15/02/2008 00:46:23
My game is set in Britain, and I need to know the law concerning civilians solving crimes... legal or illegal? I'm from Britain but I am surprisingly uneducated concerning civilians and crime fighting. Do any of you know?

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Site design
Wed 13/02/2008 20:47:03
In the 'Broken links in games.php' thread, Chris mentions a new games page. Does this mean the whole site design is getting an overhaul? Or just the games page. (sorry if this question has arisen before) And if so, when can we expect to see it?

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Costly
Wed 13/02/2008 11:57:07
I was wondering if I released the game I'm planning to make (it's getting along... slowly) for free in the downloads section, but also released a commercial version, (In a box, with jewel or keep case) would you buy the costly one? Or is it not worth making a professional version (because everyone will just get the free one). I don't want to MAKE people pay, but I'd like them to, obviously. The full one will have extras like art and such, but the game will be exactly the same.

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum, my problem is AGS related, but not technical, so I think this is the place to post. I've been planning an AGS game, and most of my friends agreed to help once I've decided what to do. So I think the best thing to do is to get a decent plot down on paper. But that's it. I get a pen, some paper; I sit down, but nothing. I'm normally quite imaginative, but for about a couple of weeks I can't even jump the first hurdle- did any of you experience writer's block? If so, please tell me how you overcame it. I'm not asking for ideas though- just a way to get them.
