Yes the visual style of the game is something special!  8)
#2
Well, i think the high quality visuals compensate for that.
I should give it a try  :)
#3
Thanks!
I will look into it as soon as the english version is available  :)
#4
Wow!
Very nice effort you put into that!

Thanks a lot  :)

I personally felt the voices add a lot of dimension, especially in the later scenes.

Yes, that's the part where i missed the voices the most in this very nice game.
(Somehow i lack the ability to emulate female voices in my head whilst reading ;D)
#6
sounds good!
the voices seem to match the characters in tone.

is it only me hearing white noise, though?
#7
Is this title in english?
#8
looks fantastic!

does it have full voice-over too?

I should not let the kids get their hands on this one.
It defenitely looks promising.
I may give it a try.

Just found something...hmm... interesting I think you should see:):

Ehhh... yes that was quite a funny experience.
Does that eradicate my question about the game having full voice-over?

So, you name the actual game file FREE_TIBET.EXE  and VIOLA the game simply doesn't exist for China's hackers.  The rest of the planet obviously won't be effected, but the idea of using China's censorship to stop piracy amuses me, and honestly, for that reason alone I'm presenting this idea.

Wow, your suggestion is above frightening.
Chinese prisons are not comparable to ours.

Back to the topic,
no you can not do a thing against piracy,
it's tilting at windmills.
If there is enough demand (which a developer surely likes to have for his project)
then there is an equal amount of demand for piracy.
Take the so-called "unpiratable" STEAM system for instance.
You have to validate the authenticity of even the single-player games online (which is quite embarassing...) before you can play them.
It took less than half a year or so for the first pirate version of the STEAM system to appear and since then various groups have made their own "Underground STEAM" including the most recent titles.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not issueing a call for piracy,
but the fact is that even the most sophisticated anti-piracy mechanisms are overcome as time goes by.
So the advantage of having such a system in place lasts only a few months,
if at all.
For indie developers this means they should evaluate the cost-benefit equation of developing such a system in the first place.

I think if the price is ok, people will prefer a legit copy over a pirated one anytime.

Grim,

I just realized the absolute easiest way to prevent it from being okay to illegally download a game in China: use China's extensive internet censorship.  Add a few files to the game folder like:

Tiananmen_Square_protests_of 1989.txt
Tibetan_independence.pdf
Taiwan_independence.doc
Uyghur_Independence.rtf

These file can be empty or not, but any file with a name like that going through a Chinese router will be killed instantly.

That only thing that can stop China from violating copyright laws... is China.

Not going to help you this go around, but for the next commercial game, it just might help.  And besides, it costs nothing to do.

- Cogliostro

Do you really think that would do the trick?
The "pirating" scene is internationally organized,
if these files are not needed by the game, even the most stupid group out there will get rid of them.
(In fact i would assume that any group which leaves these zombie files in their release would be sneered at by the scene...)

Now, would you consider it a positive or negative if Nexus only accepted games which would be considered 'proper games' and not anything that is submitted.

I'm finding it difficult to know where to draw the line. I need to find a balance between not alienating the developer base and providing players with games of a certain calibre.

I think a Nexus-internal ranking system which allows players who played through a game to rate certain categories with a 1-10 "star" or points system would be a good thing to sort the good from the bad over a period of time.

the point is to make the rating window pop up after the game has been played through.
not making it entirely optional. to motivate lazy people  ::)
for instance, the rating system of "Little Big Planet" works this way and it has proven to sort the well-designed content from the alpha or beta testing stage content.
(although there might be a tendency to accumulate overly positive or negative ratings because the user wants to "get done with that annoying survey".)

BTW my Marionette installation says something like "text-only version" in the "about" section of the game.
Does anyone know if voice-over-implementation is planned for this title?

Thanks for pointing this out,
i shall include it in the list as being "under development" then.

Who could forget Stediddy in IP1; Employment? The only AGS game so far to feature me as an Australian owl.

Sounds funny enough to give it a try  :)

Edit:
Whoops! The download Link seems to be broken!
Can you make it work again?
I'd really like to give it a try!

Is there a possibility that some developers may have included their
"voice" data in a file other than speech.vox?
Yes, it seems the voice can be in one of the "X MB-sized splitted resource files chunks" I guess...

Sorry, i have not yet looked into development,
so, if my question was non-sensical from a developer standpoint then... ... ...
Nevermind ;D

There are games listed in that might not have full speech/voice acting through the whole game.
That's why for example A Second Face did not made my list: not enough voice acting.
So there might be some games in my list that do not match your criteria.

One of the ways to get this list is a search for speech.vox, skipping the really small ones though.

My criteria are mainly: being able to avoid as much pixelated text as possible and to focus on the visuals/puzzles/story/characters/voices/ambient.

How exactly do you do that search?
(For speech.vox for instance)
Do you do it on your local computer or the database?

Yes, Heartland is not fully voiced, my memory tricked me there.
But Heartland and the Marionette were quite enjoyable.
That would be another list.
BTW my Marionette installation says something like "text-only version" in the "about" section of the game.
Does anyone know if voice-over-implementation is planned for this title?

36.King's Quest I VGA v4.1 Enhanced Edition

P.s.: this list is not complete...

Mentioned in this thread before but NOT with speech:
Apprentice 2
ben jordan 2 t/m 6
A Second Face
Heartland Deluxe

Arj0n

Wow, that's quite a large list.
How did you aquire it?
Is there a possibility that some developers may have included their
"voice" data in a file other than speech.vox?

I will add these titles immediately.
(I don't quite understand what you are saying with "Ben Jordan 2 t/m 6" though.
Do you mean 2 to 6?)

Thanks!

it would certainly be user-friendly to have such a service.
(especially for users who don't even know how to unzip, etc.)
it could also help indie developers to distribute high-quality titles.

however, the question is:
what is the cost-benefit ratio?

oh and congrats for the progress on the alpha version!
#17
Thanks!

Yes, to figure out what exactly "tons more" means would be the cause.

Since i noticed that certain users seem to download and test AGS games on a regular basis,
i thought i might be quicker compiling a list with the helps of these individuals rather than downloading and testing all the games on the database and in the forum myself.

:D

Hello, dear forum users.

I have tried to search through pages and pages in order to find something like a compiled list of AGS (commercial or non-commercial) games which feature a complete voice-over.

If such a list does not yet exist, i would like to receive suggestions from users here,
in an attempt to create it.

To clarify the reasons behind making such a list
(i would like to make this a spoiler, but can't find the code):

- the database does not have a filter to search for that criterion
(even if it had, there seem to be ~50 titles not included there)
- using the forum search options does not return good results
- my eyes start to bleed from pixelated fonts
- i personally don't find text-only adventure games appealing
(the characters lack identity,
a loop of the same background music (if there is any) over and over makes me crazy,
the dialogues feel flat and uninspired,
no immersion, no depth,
bad voice-acting is still better than nothing)

thanks a lot!
