General Discussion / Real Racing 3 friends?
Tue 29/10/2013 17:04:52
Anyone out there also play Real Racing 3? If you have more friends playing then you get more for winning races, so let me know if you're interested in forming an AGS RR3 network! By the way, I'm playing it on android, so can't use gamecenter for friending: Google+ or Facebook required...

Hey folks,

You may have noticed but I have less and less time to do blog stuff these days, so if anyone would like to take over being the main AGS Blogger, I'd love to hear from you. Of course, if there are multiple volunteers then that could work too and you can share the load! Anyway, PM me and include your google account or email  so I can invite you to be a contributor.

There are not many rules, but the blog does tend to be "Safe for Work" so no cussin' or naughty pictures, please, and nothing likely to get us sued (e.g. illegal download links or libelous accusations) ! :)

Thanks,

Mr SSH

Site & Forum Reports / Website security
Tue 21/08/2012 14:54:56
Of course, its still people's responsibility to take care of their passwords, but are the AGS (forum) passwords stored in a nice complicated hash (like SHA512 or better, not SHA1) and salted?

One day someone will hack the forums and we should take some simple measures against adding everyone's AGS passwords to the growing list of easy-to-break hashes online

Just going through the download page (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/AGS.aspx)

The bug tracker link on the right sidebar on the download page goes to the old one and should be updated: ( links to http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/BugTracker.aspx)

Also, the wiki link there is to the old location, not the current one (although it auto-forwards). The Beginners FAQ links to the old wiki site, but the auto-forward takes you just to the wiki front page.

Many of the main site forum links need to change yabb to forums

The .NET framework download link is broken and gives a microsoft not found page

The 2011 Awards have not been added to the games pages for Gemini Rue, etc. in the games DB

Also, it would be great if nominations as well as wins were also listed and an option to list the games that had noms. And more ways to show the awards info: e.g. list a matrix of awards by person or awards by year, etc.

Hi folks, your long-lost SSH here...

So, not happy with moving me from Edinburgh to Beijing to Singapore, my company is "offering" me another move, this time to Colorado Springs. So I know some of you folks live around there or have moved from other countries to the USA, so I'd be grateful if anyone can share their experiences here...

I know you guys didn't want to pressure me, which is why none of you sent me messages demanding a new Princess Marian game. But, I can read between those non-existent lines and tell you were thirsting for the compelling gaming experience that only your favourite character can bring. So, I can happily announce to have met these tacit demands: Princess Marian's Pigeon Pinger. You may think its just a poorly executed Angry Birds rip-off, but PMPP has a completely different set of standard that has eliminated the need for a complex physics engine.

Anyway, download and enjoy the latest Princess Marian gaming experience.

General Discussion / Visiting Oz in October
Sat 19/06/2010 11:52:12
Hey, you aussie AGSers, I will be doing a camper-van tour of Aus starting and ending in Sydney come October, so any suggestions as to must-see and must-do things are welcome. Bear in mind, though that my  wife and daughters will be coming too.

As I have mentioned before, I'll be moving to China in January and so I won't have time to administer the AGS Awards this time. Volunteers? CJ's got scripts that handle all the voting, so you really just need to administer things, drum up people to vote and nominate, and do the announcements and ceremony.

General Discussion / Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi
Mon 24/08/2009 11:22:40
I've been hearing that some Americans are starting up a "Freedom Fries"-like campaign where they are going to boycott Scotland becuase of the release of the terminally ill convicted Lockerbie Pan-Am flight bomber al-Megrahi. So, I was wondering, particularly from US AGSers:

1. Do you feel anger towards Scotland and should it be punished for letting a convicted terrorist free?
2. Does the fact that many Scottish relatives of those who died think that al-Megrahi didn't actually do it make any difference?
3. Do you think anyone should ever be released on compassionate grounds?
4. If a US citizen is imprisoned abroad (e.g. the lady caught "en flagrante" on the beach in Dubai) , would you support the goverment trying to get them repartiated, perhaps to serve out their term in a US prison?
5. If something is the right thing to do, does a bunch of Libyans turning al-Megrahi in to a hero on his return change its rightness?

Here's some modules that might need moving from Tech Forum to the archive...

Ever wanted to change from full-screen to windowed or 2x filter to 3x filter in-game? Well, now you can with GameSetup!

There are two components: a module which you include in your AGS project and call its functions in order to manipulate the settings and a VBScript file which you run instead of your game exe in your final game that you distribute. The VBScript allows the AGS game to quit, restart with the new settings and restore the game to where it was before.

Download the module, VBScript and an example game
Read the module's documentation

OK, so after this thread I decided to modulify my inventory smooth-scroller.

No offence to these games, but suddenly, the numbers for some games are more than 10x usual:

Quote
Most popular last week:
Shifter's Box - Outside In
(1528 downloads)
A Tale of Two Kingdoms
(985 downloads)
The Book of Spells
(817 downloads)
The Glorious Realm of Thendor
(567 downloads)
The Long Trip
(561 downloads)

CJ, any ideas?

Following on from the discussion in this thread I've created a module that you can use to scale all the sprites for a character, or to apply various other "distortions" to the sprites instead.

Needs: AGS 3.1.2 (but might work with earlier ones from 3.0 on, try it and see!)

A once-yearly competition with the prize of your stuff appearing in the AGS Awards ceremony game and your name in the credits thereof! Well, the rubbish backdrops for the 2007 AGS Awards were drawn by myself with the aid of google images. This year we can do better! Try and keep sizes and perspective "standard", please! I am looking for:

1. Inside of the venue where the awards are presented: we can see stage and some audience, perhaps

2. Other views inside the auditorium: perhaps a close up of your favourite AGS character (or forum member) in the audience picking his nose or reacting to an award, etc. Or the high-up shot when we go to commercials

3. Some commercials for a commercial break, perhaps? These are low-priority.

4. Outside the venue, the red carpet as the stars arrive.

5. The stars arriving on the red carpet

6. If you want your character to talk to our Joan Rivers-alike, give us some dialgoue lines, too if you like. And voice acting!

7. Or your character can present an award if you like, if you do an animation thereof and some dialogue too if you so desire

8. Background music anyone? Fanfares, that kind of thing

9. Anything else you can think of.

Originality is not important: feel free to recycle that funny animation from your game or just give me your character's walkcycle, or modifying things slightly. I'm looking for quality and quantity!

Finally, you can post here in this thread or PM me: obviously the latter will retain the surprise for other AGSers when they see it. Also, all decent entries will receive a plastic imitation AGS Award that they can put in their signature as a trophy!

My wife's phone records videos in 3GPP and I need to convert it for conservative relatives who don't want to install any (possibly dodgy!) new codecs, etc. I tried to convert using MediaCoder, but I don't know what settings for the output file I should use so that they can play it with no trouble.. anyone got any ideas?
