I don't understand the re-setting the timer thing :S

IT HAS BEEN 0000 DAYS
SINCE AN AGSER OF OLD RETURNED

These days we're barely making double digits anymore.

Also, I liked the Vegetable Patch games, so welcome back.  :=

Two nice and pretty different entries so far. Keep 'em coming, people!

Why would you limit clicks to a ONE PIXEL high area? That'd be the mother of all annoyances.
#384
Hah, I know that problem. I never got it to run under XP, but if you can manage to acquire a copy of Windows 98 / ME, you can set up a virtual machine, and that works like a charm.

A picture says a thousand words... you've got 300.

Since we already had Writing Compos based on music and the mags is already about adapting text... why not complete the set and have a compo based on visual media?

Basically, the idea is that you pick some sort of picture and base a story on it. It can be anything, really - the story behind the depicted events, a novelisation of a comic, a surreal work based around expressionist pictures, a Dan Brown novel... as long as it's somehow based on a picture, and <=300 words long, it's fine.

That's it. Have fun! Voting start on March 1st and will go till March 3rd. There will be trophies if we get 4 or more entries. Happy writing!

Yes! Thanks, people, and kudos to Dudeman... I honestly didn't know if I could win against you...

I'll start the next compo soon. Ish. Like early tomorrow.

Hah, well done. It's been snowing around here for hours on end... it's too dark to go outside now, but I might sneak out tomorrow and see what I can do around the local Elementary School and playground...  ;)

Also, yes, I think you're doing very well on the karma scale.

FUN FACT: You can turn everyone into a Nietzsche wannabe with three or four lines of text.

Next: Tom Clifton in an even cuter picture (cuter than usually... not cuter than above).

Hm... maybe it's time to finally wrap this up after almost two years of inactivity...

You've got a point there, you know. If you don't like a thread and think it's just going to turn into a flamewar... just ignore it. The issue at hand is, however, that we don't like what the thread is about (too much) - there's a difference, you know. Last time I checked, this part of the Intarwobs didn't have a "ignore everything you don't like" policy. A forum is, by its very definition, a place dedicated to the exchange of opinions, which is precisely what we're doing here.

And now, let's return to bashing this poor fellow's favourite humor site.  OMG HOW CAN THEY DAER TO USE COMIC SNAS!!!1!11! :=

I think the corners of my mouth twitched once or twice. There's worse stuff out there, but I won't bookmark.

Never fear!

For future reference, it's Conference -> Add Friends -> Share URL.

;D

Next: A drawing of Hypnotoad. (That's less ambigiously worded...)

Ok, if the guidelines can really be interpreted that loosely, I'm going to give it at least a try, too. Also, it seems the book has only been released in Germany and the Netherlands so far, so I might not get that much flaming from over-zealous fans.  :=
#395
Hm... interesting idea. I know I've been saying this for the last, like, 13 months without ever actually entering, but I might have something up my sleeve this time for sure. Would it be ok if the game only loosely followed the original plot - as in, using the same setting at the same point in time and space, but not actually stringently following the book?
#396
Nope. Here's a hint: what happens next involves

Spoiler
a flying skull and a lenghty tattoo.

There are many states of consciousness - or “awareness” of the outside world - but none quite as peculiar as the one encountered after having ceased to sleep, without being fully awake yet. A single moment of total ignorance, it is somewhat unique in our existence – we are alive, and we are aware of this fact, but we don’t know who, why, where or when we are, what has happened before or what is to be expected in the future. Apart from maybe a few scraps of the dream that has just ended, our mind is totally empty – but instead of being alarmed by what seems to be amnesia, we stay calm. At some level, we just KNOW our brain will kickstart in a split second, scanning relevant memories and present us a quick summary of who, where and when we are, as well as a decent guess at the “why” of these factors.

Imagine my surprise when, after the fading of the scattered pictures, my mind STAYED empty.

Surprise was quickly followed by curiosity, then shock. Adrenaline, in combination with ancient instincts, caused me to snap to full attention and assume a half-sitting position, eyes opened and senses sharpened. The data they collected did not help my stress levels. I appeared to be positioned on a rusty steel bench, covered in blotches of what might have been blood or rust; judging by the texture, it probably was both. Shadowy figures shambled in the distance, their jerky motions seeming... wrong somehow, nearly human, but not quite. The air was thick with the sickly odor of decay, accentuated by a slight but sharp note of formaldehyde. The scenery was somewhat reminiscent of a moriutary… albeit one straight out of a nightmare.

To my continued surprise, I was overwhelmed not by fear, but frustration. As a last memory bubble rose from the murky depths of my unconsciousness, I spoke my first words.

“Hell… not AGAIN.”

----

+10 taste points if you can identify the game. 323 words total. In my defense, the game is also incredibly wordy, but if needed, I could remove a couple of adjectives.

I don't think "two people" qualifies as "army"...  :P
