Hi All,

I need help in assigning different animations to the same character.
I want it to move to a certain position on the screen THEN start walking, my code below just ignores the first step and goes walking directly...Can somebody instruct me how to put this code correctly in a room?

Code: ags

  cEagle.Move(800, 400, eNoBlock, eAnywhere);
  Wait(1);
  cEagle.Walk(300, 300, eNoBlock, eAnywhere);

@Frostfalk: first of all, thank you so much for your opinion & advice, really matters.
And I've actually shifted the game to another topic in the "Games under production" by this link:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=49008.0

Please go there, try out the demo as many things can be valid as well from there.
And waiting for your opinion afterwards!

In the demo you'll be able to see the animation of the character, objects in the scene, interactions, UI...etc.
Therefore it will give me a better feedback & will give you the chance to try it out yourself and judge upon it.

Hi Guys, I'm having a major problem here with the PlayVideo() function.

I'll start by explaining that I've released a demo for my game recently, some players had an issue that whenever they open the game the mouse doesn't move and it hangs (When using directdraw), but when they change it to (Direct3D) it works, but plays the video at the end of the demo with sound only (No Video).

But on my personal computer, I can run the game with directdraw perfectly with the video working flawlessly at the end, but today I tried to change the game to use Direct3D, it worked fine but the video played with only sound.
Please how can I fix this so that my game works with "Direct3D & The video plays fine with audio?"

Kindly note that the video is .avi extension saved using XVID codec with resolution (640x480) & the game's resolution is (640x480) in 32-bit colors.

@dactylopus: couldn't agree more ;) because that's a typical tic tac toe move....even if u guys tried out the demo, the character when he interacts with this drawing on the wall he speaks out the words "Huh, typical".

@bbX1138: i don't get your point, this is tic tac toe & it's supposed to be a typical game in these situations to just waste time "Kindly note that this game is a mystery/comic game".

I've created a new topic under "Games under production" which includes a demo for the game & all info about it, i'll keep it updated as well:

Story

Mccoy the main character finds himself trapped in a bizarre chamber with a weird inmate; Is it a prison, a hospital, or is it something bigger than what he thinks it is?
That's what he has to figure out specially when the drift of events take an unconditional way when he tries to escape this chamber.

Future Development

I'm working on releasing "Vague" in terms of 3 Chapters as follows:

Chapter 1: Some hours earlier than the incident in the demo to make the gamer experience the flashback of the character and uncover how he ended up in this chamber.
Chapter 2: Starts right off when the demo ends and continues the story accordingly.
Chapter 3: No spoilers at the moment but the plot is already in production and it will be the end of the story.

Download the demo here & try it yourself

And don't forget to support the project & like its official Facebook Page as well: http://www.facebook.com/VagueGame

Thanks for your support...i actually managed in Vague to combine between old school gameplay with a modern art style, i hope it's satisfying as i'm thrilled to release a demo level very soon.
Considering the vent, yes it's supposed to be a vent connecting rooms together, i positioned it so that afterwards you'll find that this place has many rooms connected to each other "so it will come in handy sometime as i don't wanna spoil anything now :)"

I'll release a small demo just to test the functions and how the gameplay works and reviewed amongst the forum, hope you like it

Your input is definitely appreciated as well! :)

Critics' Lounge / Vague - My First Game

Hi everyone, first of all I'd like to thank all of the people who've encouraged me on my project and helped me upgrade my artworks as well with all of their advices.
I've created this topic since I've worked a lot on my game recently and I wanted to share the latest updates and get your feedback on the art style; Please take a look below on the artworks and your feedback is very much appreciated since this is my first game and I'm thrilled to introduce it to everyone:

Game Name: Vague

The player wakes up to find himself locked up in some sort of a cell and an inmate is sleeping there; "Is it a prison?, a hospital?, is it another thing?", that's what you're going to learn throughout the whole story in "Vague" starting with a flashback that leads to such point in the game, then you progress to finish the story.

The main character is: Mccoy (I've attached a picture from his front, and the animation of the side)

More details to come soon but until then, i'd like to know your feedbacks on the art style, animation...etc

@Anian: I kindda liked the colors and the look of my last render, feels new,3-dimensional and kindda hand drawn at the same time.
I'll definitely add more objects to the scene & considering the characters, i've never really tried to draw one before so i'll find that hard at the beginning but i'll try to do my best.

I've done some painting overs just like @Scavenger advised me to do and i got to the following results "Sorry for asking too much but i'm new to this and i have Zero experience with digital painting":

1. Downgraded the color depth:

2. Added some painting over:

3. The original image after Painting over it:

4. Original image but with adjusted Paint:

Considering the Cartoonish look, I've managed to manipulate some rendering options in 3ds Max as well as adding some textures and i've come to this satisfying result:

What do you think...shall i proceed with this quality rather than pixelating my work? or if anybody knows a cool stunt to perform on this image?

Thank you all so much for your help, all of yr advices and support are deeply appreciated.

@Scavenger: I'll proceed accordingly by rendering my scenes with a low resolution and no textures applied "Only a basic color & lighting effects", then I'll paint over them using Photoshop "and I'll make use of my Wacom Bamboo Tablet as well", I think it will come very handy.

@Babar: Thnx for the illustration, really it's very helpful and made me open to new ideas.

@Iceboty V7000a: Thnx for the links, they'll help me a lot specially after deciding that I'll be applying digital painting to my art style.

@Oldschool_Wolf: I'll check "Graphics Gale"...Thnx man

@Khris: I was looking forward to heading to almost the same graphics as MI 2, thnx for the clarifications.

@Problem: This color reduction trick also helps to achieve a lot in a simple step.

Thanks all and i'll try to finish at least one sequence with all coding and everything and i'll send it to all to try it out and give me your opinions on everything

I've actually started to render the first background & my character, but i kindda need an old school look.
Maybe some rendering settings for 3ds Max would come very handy if anybody could advise me.

Take a look at the sample I rendered so far (I tried to get a cartoonish look):

But at the end, i need it to be downscaled and pixelated like the old adventure games.

Critics' Lounge / Creating Assets For My Game
Thu 05/09/2013 05:33:42
I really want to create the assets of my game using the same art technique as in old school Adventure games like "Monkey Island".
I'm using 3ds Max to model all my environments, objects & characters. But can anyone help me on how to achieve such quality "The Pixelated Artwork with the Cartoonish look" ?
